Blast From The Past 33

Hello friends,

First of all, I’m thrilled to see you all joining in the discussion on my blog week over week. Tons of comments have been pouring in every single day and Alexandra and I are doing our best to keep up with them all. I am truly grateful for your participation and feedback. Thank you so much for being a part of this with me.

I’m really sorry but I haven’t had the time to prepare "Dear Burt" this week. I’ve been so busy working on some exciting stuff. I will be starting “Dear Burt” up again in a couple weeks. I will keep you posted!

Meanwhile, I found this really cool video.

It's of San Francisco. It was taken by one of the very first motion picture camera's and has apparently been attached to the front of a cable car going about eight miles an hour down Market Street. The year is 1906, four days before the great earthquake. It is most fascinating.

I've seen in four times and notice different things each time. A world where autos have just appeared and traffic lights weren't even thought of as yet.

I thought you may like it. Let me know your thoughts.

Sincerely,

Burt

My kind of era. It has a past life flavor to it. Spacious streets u-turns of all kinds. People taking it all in stride. Thanks for sharing.

Dreamlike. I wonder what future generations will think when they watch videos from our era. Hopefully they will be able to smile at how needlessly complicated, rushed and materialistic our lives were.
I forwarded a link to my elderly parents.
Thanks Burt

What a captivating video... and my, how times have changed in our modern fast paced world of today...there were no road rules and no organization and the pace of life so slow...absolutely fascinating... thanks for sharing with us Burt...

Dear Burt,
I love seeing your great stuff in my e-mail box anytime! Keep it coming! I would nearly lay down and die to be able to purchase the Silver collection of the Quantum Jumping Collection, much less the Platinum collection which would be the most helpful so I coud read along with the audio, because of my ADD. I will be watching for another opportunity on that collection after I get back from Brazil, and I have a little money
(I hope!) Love, Lesley

Don't know why some people can't recognize the women and children. They were there, I counted at least 13 women and 2 children (not counting the paper boys running around). Remember, the women wore long dresses. They also had feather plumes on their hats, and many had white fluffy "bibs". Watch again. Especially for the few women who walked right across the path of the streetcar!!!!

Nekesa says

Totally enjoyed the scroll through time. However, I saw plenty of women in the video, especially at the beginning. But due to the fact that the cable car is seemingly going into a business district the women figures did wane some what. And the boys darting back and forth in front of the camera counts as children.

Amazing video. I'm surprised there were no wrecks. Today there would be all kinds of road rage from the driving. Everyone there just took it in stride.

Linda says

This looks sooo much like Morocco right now! Cars, horses/wagons and people all mixed up in the roads. I am not surprised at all mostly only men are in the streets as it was 100 years ago. Odd how things change and don't change at the same time.

Thank you Burt for sharing this incredible piece of our history. I too wonder why no women or girls. Nevertheless I could almost feel myself in the picture. I'll watch it many times I'm sure.

Somehow this "gift" reminds me of your Spring of Wellness from Quantum Jumping 1, which is the most awesome thing I have ever experienced. I am a great Burt Goldman fan, evidenced by my Healing Triangle, MindBox 1 and 2, and Quantum Jumping 1 and 2. I'm currently working my way through QJ 1.

Thank you for all you share. You are truly an amazing gift!

As a collector of photos, books and other stuff from and about the earthquake and fire I found it a wonderful view. It would never be the same ( but then nothing is ).

I enjoyed that short film so much! The music made me fell like I was floating in time. I enjoyed it so much I had to tell my son about it, he then came over and watch it with me. I've always been very interested in the past and how people lived. It's been awhile since
I've really enjoyed something so simple and fun.

Thanks,
bestlala

Loved it and will watch again but initial response is where are the women and children?
Loved pace, lack of rules, lack of population, freedom of the streets, no fear, slow public transport, few cars, horse and cart, interest by some in the camera on the front of the transport, proliferation of black suits, white shirts and small bowler hats...fascinating window indeed!
Thanks so much Bert

To Marilyn - the music is lovely and really works with the film(Air - Moon Safari album).

The fascinating thing is that four days before an earthquake someone took this film and probably wondered if anyone would see it.

I can see features about people that I recognise and identify with - of folk who were just busy getting on with their lives. No inkling of what was about to happen.

We seem only to be separated by time and the music takes us there to be with them for just a few minutes.

Perhaps, that's why Burt chose this piece.

Marilyn R Williams says

To John - thank you for telling us the name of the music! I thought it was made especially for the video. Now I know I can buy it :)

I have watched this video six times - think I may be in love!

Every time I see something different and am sure it would have been longer if the driver had not turned his horse and buggy in front of the two trolley cars.

It's like a little window into the past....

Rosie says

Hi Burt,

Very interesting all the types of transportation together with people doing so diverse things. Not much population :-) which is very nice.

Thank you for sharing the movie.

Nice film, almost as if it was made for Air's 'La Femme D'argent' which plays in the background.

The way things were back then! hmmmmmm..... i mean the trains going by the people able to walk across the tracks just to get across the street.. Amazing! :) Everything was so different, the horses and carriages which we no longer have at the present moment like back then. It's good to know how easy it was to get around back at that time. (though not everyone had the means for it at the time).. but everything looked so calm and pleasant.

Earl says

It's always interesting to observe people and their attitudes. The people back then...as now...when they had purpose...they had a mission and were seemingly in a greater hurry that others. Still others were just out having fun. Even looking thru the comments here...I read, before making this post...I see the minds of different people operating on different levels... :) It's amazing to me, that so many people...with their different degrees of intent...just seem to be aware of what's happening all around them...and others are not.
Thank you, Burt for another interesting angle on how to teach us...

Reminds me of driving in Italy a couple of years ago. Utter chaos. I Am so glad traffic lights were invented.
It is very fun to see how things use to be and compare to now.

Hi,Burt
We are surely missing you.
The SF video is quite interesting.
Just wondering where the ladies were?
Still a policeman in sight..
Indeed, no traffic lights - so strange..
Life seemed to flow a lot smoother though..
Such a pity those majestic buildings were destroyed!
I very much liked the background music! Awesome
Thanks Burt for another beautiful gift from you.
All the very very best to you.

Burt -
Absolutely amazing! That video is so cool - posting to facebook right now.

The newspaper boy was my favorite.

Shows several things - streets were big before cars arrived, drivers haven't changed and we are so lucky.

It must have been disgusting back in those days - the horse waste - yuck - just the smell would have been terrible, but walking around would have been super gross - especially for women with their long skirts.

Missing my time with Burt!

Hope to see you soon,
Marilyn
