Lots of people tell me they just aren't feeling motivated.

"How can I become more motivated?" they ask me.

I tell them that first they have to start focusing on the right things, and searching for motivation isn't really the root of the problem.

To illustrate my point today I'll tell you a story about a guru. The story helps explain why the root cause lies more in your idea of desire than your motivation.

Dear friends,

Given a little thought it's not hard to pick out the people in your life who you come away from dealing with and feel just drained. Sometimes these people are the folks at work or strangers on the street but other times they are the ones we love most and our good friends. An effective way to avoid feeling drained as the day goes on is to learn and practice how to safeguard yourself against these people.

One way of protecting yourself against these kind of people is by creating an energy shield. These energy shields can work as barriers in between yourself and another person or as an all-encompassing bubble between you and a potentially draining environment.

Join me below and I'll explain (in two parts!) more about the practices I use to keep myself energized and not be affected by the people who bring me down.

Dear Friends,

Today I want to talk a little bit about being in control of how much of your brain you use. There's a common misconception going around these days that the average human only uses 10% of their brains, but this isn't really true. From moment to moment people use completely different parts of their brains and use them to vastly different degrees. To say we only use 10% of them would really be oversimplifying things.

The key to understanding how to use more of your mind lies first in realizing you already know how to purposely decide to use less of it. In the video below I'll explain a little bit about how you do that, and then expand the discussion to explain how you can also do the opposite and use more of your mind.

Dear Friends,

Is there such a thing as a victim personality? And if so, is there a way to step out of it?

In the video below I tell you how to change your mindset from victim to warrior whenever you're finding yourself being victimized.

I also share with you the lessons I learned from an overweight martial arts teacher and a "little old lady" I once met.

Their stories will show you that as soon as you change your thoughts and start taking action to "unvictimize" yourself, everything around you changes, especially the way people treat you.

So next time you are feeling like a victim, pay attention to your thoughts and feelings and remember that you can always change them, you just have to choose so.

Hi friends,

In this fast paced world we live in, it can be difficult at times for our memory to keep up with so much information we deal with on a daily basis.

Throughout my life I have used and taught a few different memorization techniques that help the mind stay lucid.

In this video I share a very simple game that both kids and adults can learn and easily practice with a friend. You all probably know it but might not have played it this way.

When I replayed the video I noticed that I actually made a mistake but thought I'd leave it to see if your memory is good enough to point it out:)

Click here to view the embedded video.

And remember that exercising your mind also helps you to stay healthy.

Thank you very much for watching. Talk to you next week.

To Enlightenment,

Burt

p.s. If you noticed the mistake leave a comment below. Also suggest more topics you'd like me to talk about.

Hi friends,

Today is a very special day for me.

My grandson Shaun is 29 today. And I just got of the phone with him.

As most of you already know by now, he is a composer and he plays the piano and guitar. So today I want to share with you a song that he composed quite a while back when we were both working together on a program for teenager. Kind of like a MindBox for teenagers.

This one I particularly thought would be a useful to you too, it's called The Worry Song.

So this week, the big lesson I want you to take from week's video is how to go back to the past memories and regrets and learn to let go and get over them. It's a memory, and you have control over what you want to remember and not!

Watch my video here>>>

Remember friends, there is a thousand ways to worry but a million ways to free them all.

It's Friday again and we're at Dear Burt 85 Time really does fly!

And summer will soon be upon us, and as many of you know I live in a dessert area. Soon it's going to get very very hot, and we'll stay indoors, where there's airconds! But we like it here.

I always like to quote Frank Sinatra when he was asked, "Why do you live in the dessert?" to which he says "It's because I like to breathe"

So this week, I am will be speaking to you about creativity. Where do ideas come from? Where do we draw inspiration from?

Watch this week's video here:

So do it different! You'll be surprised at the results you start seeing.
