Correct me if I'm wrong here, but there's no law against meditating in public places, right?
Why, then, do authorities seem determined to stop my new friend Max Simon and his friends from doing their thing?
You may have heard of Max. He's the 26 year old founder of the selfcentered Tour (getselfcentered.com), a new school meditation movement that's on a mission to inspire a million people to learn meditation by 2010.
The meditation session you can see in the video is called a Public Display of Meditation (PDM). Max has been holding them across the country in all sorts of unbelievable venues, from Hollywood Boulevard to shopping malls, and the buzz has caught on like wildfire.
I recently met Max at my 81st birthday party, and I think he's an astounding young man.
This is exactly what we need to get the younger generation interested in meditation. Max is successfully branding his form of meditation into a refreshing, modern package that is fast catching on among young people throughout the world.
The son of best selling author David Simon M.D., he's been meditating since the age of 4. And by the time he was 22, he was the youngest meditation and yoga teacher at the Chopra Center.
After barely a year of operations, he's already gained the praises of Mr. Deepak Chopra himself, Apl of the Black Eyed Peas and Ms. Debbie Ford.
I'm sure it's only a matter of time before he reaches his one million mark!
You can visit his website here: www.getselfcentered.com
So, if you had the chance to meditate anywhere in the world, where would it be? Please leave your comments in the box below.

My name is Burt Goldman. I’m one of those “lucky people” who discovered a secret early in life. For the last 50 years, I have been traveling the world and meeting and studying spiritual masters from every inch of our planet. Now, at the age of 82, I'm ready to share with the world what I have learned. I started this blog to be able to share with you my most valuable teachings and insights I have gained over the past few decades. Here, you'll find plenty of valuable information on meditation, energy healing, spirituality, and my latest revelation, Quantum Jumping. I look forward to connecting with you and I sincerely hope you enjoy being a part of this blog.

Wow! I started meditating when I was 30. And at 26, Max is already and expert in meditation! I wish I could have started this exercise in my 20's. Daily meditation really helps in giving me a balanced and more productive life.
I found your site on del.icio.us today and really liked it.. i bookmarked it and will be back to check it out some more later.
Doing meditation in a public place is akin to doing tai chi every AM in China where it is accepted practice. and tai chi is meditation. So, Max can place his group meditators in public places where they are not deliberately blocking access. So what is the intent of his movement; Is it to confront? Or is it to be? Is it to bring peace? Lovely, lovely peace spreading from the hearts of the meditators to those walking by, to those checking them out. Sending out peace thoughts from the heart vibrates peace all around. Intent outflows as peaceful energy and can be picked up on by the by-standers. So peace thoughts are real energy that can be felt and can influence. So I want to know what intent is underlying Max and his meditators.
Hi Burt, In the photo with Max you look to be in your 50's. That is a tribute to QJ. I usually go to level and arrive at a sunny breezy beach, with seagulls calling and flying about and the sounds of the waves curling up the sand and back to the waters, feeling the warmth of the sun on my skin. Sometimes I meet friends there in total peace.
Burt, I have a video request. Could you put together a short piece geared toward widows that have lost spouses after 35+ years married. Thanks!!
Wow! your website have the great information about meditatin
.I'm sure I will be back again.
hey is everyones voice off in the mornings, cause when i wake up my air and singign is far off and not as good
I like meditating when sitting at the edge of canyons. I meditated at the Grand Canyon, at the edge of it for a few days once.
Meditaion is a way to to go deep to a silent state of
being regardless of the noisy world in and out.
I believe it can be practiced on anytime and anywhere.
I also think it would be right to teach it since you are
a child.

Meditating I love to do'
Contemplate some may call it'
Dwelling on'
I love to see and feel the sun on my shoulders'
The warmth of the universe'
Healing and purification'
I remember back in 74'
Line em up
Line them all up for shure
I've seen them all
Make today the day
lay the life out you want
Smile for the day
Overcome the blowing of the world
One can meditate anywhere once the habit is developed. What do you think of a poem called "The presence of God"...by an Irish poet?
I see his blood upon the rose and in the stars the glory of his eyes.
His body gleams amid eternal snows
His tears fall from the skies
I see his face in every flower the thunder and the singing of the birds are but his voice
and carven by his power, rocks are his written words......
Now I have my words to this,
I see His face in every face and in every eye the glory of His eyes,
His body gleams in every body,
His tears fall from every eye......
Yes meditation helps us to be home with ourselves and see the glory even in the broken and the crushed. Who admires a broken and bruised body, but when that body is broken and bruised for love of us all what a marvel that a human person can love so much.
Bless us all
Meditation to me is not about going or getting anywhere, it is simply allowing yourself to reside peacefully in the present moment, regardless of external circumstances or internal turmoil.
meditation is best done by the sea, or by a beutifully flowing river in the wilderness...
or sitting propped up against a beautiful ancient tree...
more and more meditating with other beings as points in the star mer ka bah or making up the star - ship itself are simply put - WONDERFUL!!
Greetings Burt,
My favorite place that I ever meditated was along the river at a place called Valley Green in the Roxborough section of Philadelphia. Just something about the flowing river and the peacefulness of the surrounding wooded area made me feel so centered. Now, often when I meditate - even though I am hundreds of miles away from Valley Green) - I still return there in my meditations.

Max rocks! I love seeing someone so young getting the message of meditation out to other young people.
I would like to be able to meditate anywhere, and anytime I felt the need...
For every choice we make we create new space, for every choice we don't we'll never know.
Sweet! Would like to join them. Although truth to be told, I never got the hang of meditation.
After watching the video, I felt that public demonstration of meditation becomes more like religious sect. Somebody's belief should not always become another's act; everyone should have own yet unique set of beliefs.
in a holy sanctury, with an advanced yogi there to guide me
I would meditate in front of the White House. The calming wave in the vicinity would be something for the media to talk about. And top politicians should get a first-hand taste of peace for once, no matter how uneasy it makes them.
I think a better question would be...where wouldmn't I meditate? I recently became unemployed and while I was at the unemployment office I was having some difficulty with a form that would not let me complete. the director of the office allowed me to come into her office and she call the the main office and while I was waiting, sitting in her chair, for a response, I did a short couple minute meditation to com myself and thank this person for helping me and being so generous with her time and personal space.
THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU. can we say thank you too much?? How much time is required for it to be called a meditation session???
If I could meditate anywhere in the world where that place be???? Inside me. Then if I want i can be anywhere.
Doesn't meditation only happen in one place.. inside we??
or am i not understanding the term meditation correctly??
Good going! More power to you!
Hi Burt:
I am sure you enjoyed your birthday celebration!
I enjoyed the movie. I meditate minimal three times a day. Surely, every morning and every evening. It helps me to focus and to stay focus. The world is hectic, my world doesn't have to be. Max is doing a wonderful thing. Let's all pitch in and assist in our own circles.
Yes meditation is the only way for attaining peace of mind and discipline in life if not attaining GOD vision at a later date
In a forest, under a canopy of tree. On a perfectly warm day, not too hot or cold, with a beautiful breeze blowing. I can hear the rustle of the leaves overhead, perfectly safe, perfectly content. Yum!
