The Obama Effect? 239

This is just one of those things you need to *see* to *believe.*

A recent study has found that the achievement gap between white and African-American students significantly decreased immediately after President Obama’s nomination acceptance speech, and just after his election victory.

obama-school

What this means is that President Obama’s achievements have directly influenced black children in America to rise up and do better in the classroom.

The study was featured in the New York Times, and you can see it for yourself here.

You made some good points there. I did a search on the topic and found most people will agree with your blog.

Regardless of a persons nationality skin colour or racial type/group we are all brothers and sisters. There is genetic evidence that we are all descended from one african female living about 150,000 years ago — thats right ALL of us every single human being on the planet.
As I myself am ‘white english’ and my partner is ‘black afro-caribbean’ we took our stance for total racial equality more than forty years ago! We personally (and our now grown children) fiercely object and protest any racially based distinctions we encounter anywhere. There is no need for governments or employers to categorise people by race nationality colour or current social/community standing.
To our knowledge our kids have british caribbean scot welsh and german ancestry, and probably french as well.
We cheered the american election results and regard it as the US finally coming of age!
I urge everyone to reply to racial enquiries on forms as ‘human’ and to religious ones as ‘I am God what do you mean?’ Such things are nobody’s business but your own, the tax man or your employer do not have any legitimate reason to demand such information from you.
Why is this relevant to Obama? Because our small influence on the world has helped bring about this overdue advance for humanity.

Love him or hate him, Obama is the evolutionary leap we have all been waiting for. Whether he planned it or not, he is the essence of cohesiveness. There could be no better person to unite this country, just by being who he is, a blend of black and white, velvet and steel. Not only does he personify Lincoln’s values, he is finishing what Lincoln started and was aborted from accomplishing. We must set our intention to keep O’bama’s safety at the top of our meditation and prayer lists. We will not have this opportunity for growth and achievement coming around again any time soon. No more “the good die young” or kowtowing to some shadow government who never has our best interests in mind.

Hmmmmhhhh!

Sounds like a gross fabrication to me!

Seems like you just can’t believe anything that’s printed in the New York Times anymore!

The media (i.e., liberal-leaning) will invent just about anything to make it seem like Obama (a politician who has accomplished nothing meaningful yet, except get elected to an office) is some sort of Saviour.

I think what is more significant to students might be the role-modeling of their parents, rather than whatever Obama does or doesn’t do/say.

It all seems like a hunk of phooey to me.

Most importantly if we believe that change needs to happen, let us focus on just that. Join the mind group conscious that is forming the power pack of energy that will maintain him (Pres. Obama) in this position do so. Let us consciously create a common vibrational “power pack” for his benefit and utimately for us all, and change WILL happen IT MUST
for the group mind dictates. We may see him stumble make some missteps, but thats all right we do have the power to re-create and change yes even our Physical reality as a nation, a people, citizens of this dimension. Here what I do feel about Mr. Obama, is his sincerity to try do the right thing, hold the right kinda of agendas and policies! Abolish polarity as a the status quo. The whole world must face change. He has changed the way our government will forever be run. The Obama effect is strong because as a first it has all of our attention, we are generating energy of some kind towards this Presidency so why not make it a positive one so that change can really begin to happen. See Beyond the man and look at the symbols…

Part of this “effect” I believe is what Ruppert Sheldrake called the morphic resonance field. A type of collective consciousness that resonates specifically to every species. It subtely affects the subconsious thru its vibrational frequncies. You can read about Sheldrake’s research into this in many of his books.

Phil says

I am pleased that there has been a measurable positive effect from President OBama on blacks taking tests. He has definitely proven to be a charismatic leader. My concern is what his longer term effect will be, not simply to blacks, but to all Americans. To call his effect “the Obama effect” means it is not talking about role modeling and positive influence from important people in some one,s lives, as that has has been an accepted reality of life. But specifically on how people react as a result of Barak Obama’s influence.

The election was orchestrated with a biased news media, and bought with hundreds of millions of dollars. Honesty was never seriously challenged. President Obama has been reported to be the most polarizing president we have ever had in this country, and his actions and budget are leading us to a debt that our grandchildren will be burried under. I wonder if anybody will be doing a study on “the Obama effect” in a year or two.

Lawrence Miller says

I believe I understand the Obama Effect. People who feel they are somehow not as smart, good or worthy as another group of people need a role model of what they consider their own kind. Thus when one of (them) becomes the president of the USA they begin to feel differently about themselves. They begin to feel like they are worthy, smart and capable. They always were. They just needed proof. To them Obama becomming president was proof.

S. Welsh says

Let’s face it. Obama got where he is only because the press gave him favourable reviews, while McCain was shown as a crusty old man.

He is and was a media creation (all smoke and mirrors). He lost me when I saw that piece on Youtube when he lost the teleprompter. He sounded really clued out. You would imagine that if he was as smart and wonderful as he is portrayed in the media, he would have been able to hold his own without the teleprompter. I was most defintely not impressed. It is all a farce.

ANDRE says

Manifesting Ideals instead of Love first is what most of the metaphysical minded are up to at the moment.

So our hopes and wants are external things still; The business and political world is following that same route.

Change starts in you when you cease looking outside yourself for all the answers especially LOVE and acceptance.

Stop the madness and go inwards to find the real you, (PRACTICE not seeking externally) find love in yourself, forgive all others because they have just as much pain from this false search outside of themselves as you do.

Then forgive YOU and grow love for all other things within the creation as yourself.

Go inside yourself without your thoughts,When they turn up simply watch them without any judgment of those thoughts so they pass away and leave the real you standing there in your birth right of divine peace and love. Then give thanks for it,share it around and that process is what brings abundance to you.

Share your love and this peace with your partners and family, friends, then it moves out onto the streets, communities and out from there into the world.
Real change has never worked the other way around yet in all of history; why will it now all of a sudden just through some change in government?

Anyone who says the real answer to everything is over here or to be found over there within this group or that group or in this action or in that action or through this man or that man is lying to you, religion and politics included.

The kingdom of heaven is first found within.

John says

Congratulations Burt for your insight in setting up this post. For those who feel that you are now a facist because of the subject matter at the top which they do not like, and they tend to go along with the notion of lies served up to them daily by the likes of FOX News liars such as Hannity, Beck, O’Reilly and others like Cantor, Michelle “out of her mind” Bachmann who needs a collar choke that this man will take your guns therefore they must buy up all the ammo and bullet proof vests in sight before this happens just send light to them that they may stop being a part of the herd like mentality to be against something or someone without the actual facts.

Obama has said during his campaign in front of many audiences that the notion that he wants to take guns away from legal gun owners is false. He, as a constitutional professor also said besides it couldn’t be done even if someone wanted to because of the right to bear arms. His concern is with the weapons getting into the hands of criminals, underage children, etc. Unfortunately, the right wing party has lied to its constituency because it did not have a good enough plan to move the country forward, so what do you do to guarantee that your supporters will not leave and go to the other side? You lie on and about the agenda of the other side.

It’s one thing to have different ideologies and therefore from time to time debate one another and question the opinions and positions. I do not consider that a prejudice act. I consider that a healthy discussion that hopefully will come to an amicable conclusion for the good of all.

Now what becomes blatant racism and prejudice is when inspite of what Obama has said, and he has stuck to many of his campaign pledges in his very short time in office as well as done more before his first 100 days than Bush did in all 8 years, the Republicans have decided to out and out continue the blatant lies about this man. Community Service is not a bad thing, but to many of the Republican leaders and many in the party it seems to be. Michelle Bachmann standing on the House floor spewing her lies saying, Obama is going to put your children in camps and brainwash them into Community Service. He wants to take your guns. Another lie. Take from the rich and give to the poor. Another lie. We all have been paying taxes for as long as I can remember, now you have ignoramouses stating just because this African American dare be the President, that he’s taking their hard earn money and giving it to the lazy, don’t want to do nothings, as opposed to for the last 8 years we all have paid into a war that was started on the premise of lies. Oh, but that’s okay. That’s what taxes go for period no matter who is in the White House. Which shows me, it’s about race and hate and ignorance and age old lies between the races. What’s wrong with making sure all Americans have decent Health Care. Ask yourselves Republicans, Right Wingers, Conservatives. How much would you be up in arms if this country was mostly caucasian? Just a question. You want to blame all of this on one man which is terribly unfair. Both Political Parties are to blame along with the deregulation of the Financial System by Republicans which include Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, and of course a war that billions of our taxpaying dollars are still being spent on that was based on lies. This is not the fault of poor blacks who received subprime mortgages. It has been documented that many Blacks with excellent credit were given these mortgages as well which Derivative Traders tied them all together and sold them for mega, mega bucks. Many RIGHT WINGERS talk about him raising taxes, and cutting out the small businesses. This is what I’m talking about. The LIES.

Many of us who still have jobs, have seen an increase in our paychecks thanks to the Obama administration.

Many of those complaining that he wants to raise taxes are middle to lower middle class and below who will benefit more from this man’s plan than what the Republicans want to and have done for the last 8 years.

People out of work is not Obama’s fault. Blame it on the BIG BUSINESSES(Corporations) in this country that did not have an allegiance to the citizens of this country, and many of them went overseas and hired Indians for technical help desk positions, and China which left many Americans where? That’s right. Say it with me,“OUT IN THE COLD.” Thanks Great Republicans who care more about big business and less government. The problem is big business doesn’t seem to care about its people.

You talk about Government has no place in regulating businesses especially in the firing of GM’s CEO. Why do we as Americans have a government then? What is it suppose to be for if not to help get us through this crisis at this time.

Do we take the advice of the Republicans, and sit and do nothing and wait for the markets to come around while people are steadily losing jobs. What would that accomplish? Let’s say for example: If we did that; Just let the markets crash and do nothing. Then by some miracle the markets come around, then what. The corporations who were getting huge tax breaks from the Republican party for 8 years would still go outside this country to hire and where again does that leave Americans.

My wish to many of these right wing Republicans would be to just be honest with yourself. You say you love America, but clearly can’t stand Americans. Oh, I’m sorry, I mean those who don’t look like you, and think as you do.

God bless America

We have come a long way baby. I think it is wonderful that we could and did elect a Black person to the highest political office in our country.

If the servey is correct, this is a great thing. But lets look a little deeper. Their have been many black people that achieved much greater things than Obama. So is this uplifting caused by Obama or the media representation of Obama. Symbols have only the power that we give them and we have created Obama as a symbol of great power for some.

If this is so and this has inspired some to achieve, what will happen when the truth comes to light. Obama is very careful about his words. He uses a teleprompter at all times and has trouble if it messes up. We have seen the biggest power grab from government in our history. We are starting to see our personal liberties start to go away and I am seeing people applaud what is happening. So when Obama’s legacy is poverty and hunger what will the Obama effect be?

When the smoke clears I will be here to HELP. TO HEAL. TO TEACH. AND TO EMPOWER. For those that are not caught up in the current lunacy. I suggest you prepair yourself to do the same.

He is not fooling me or about 8% of others in here by the looks of it.

You can tell who people are only by their deeds and by who surrounds them; like attracts like.

Many here need to look a bit closer at whos behind your new hero, who trained him up; They are the ones behind the companies who he has just helped out with billions $ before your dying street people.

These are also the ones who will once again tell you God is outside of you and you must go through them, their way to seek him! Put your money and your faith in the jar on the way out please.

False Religion and false Governments; Re read Revelations again but not the way ‘they’ have taught you to read.

Also the belief that we are the creative forces all learning about the old secret creative tools and gifts of manifestation is just fine its a decent thing in the right hearts;

But held above your own love, that of the Creator God or your fellow man is also going to become extremely blinding to you in the very near future.

If you sell those out, you sell you out! Even Burt and all his past on wisdom wont be able to buy you back out of the second dimensional energies about to be released by the greed for anti life energy that is outweighing the love within us.

Please take care of yourselves and each other.

Simple! Every one wants to be great.Obama signifies hope not only to African Americans but to other oppressed and despaired people all over the world. His election as the president is a manifestation of the word “possibilty”. If Obama could be elected a president of United States despite his background, then there is hope for the African American child/youth(evidently with hard work). And so they have a model to look up to. More so they can not afford to let him down by doing poorly since he belongs to this race and represents them.I wish Obama and the people of United states the best.Peace to the world.

Thanks for your positive perception Burt.

Honestly I can tell you that I feel ashamed when I see another person inspire me to achieve higher things, because I should have done it myself. I feel that my imagination should be endless and belive to be manifestable no matter what.

EX: If I were to see everybody else walking on water, then learn how to do it(knowing it was a dream 5 months ago)I would be ashamed at myself for not even trying before I saw anybody. I would feel less of a person.

I really think that people(especially those little African kids)are starting to take their limits off. Hopefully they get the message and know they could also walk on water before they see other people do it, is all I am saying(Or even cure eyesight naturally).

I think having laws and a president(big leaders) is bad because this means that theirs alot of people not evolved or developed. We shouldnt need people with guns(police) or a big boss to make us peacefull. We wouldnt have this war if we stopped leting the president/Government represent us. If we would start to think globally and get out their and show foreign peope that we are all the same, things would be alot better.

BUT NO, WE REFUSE TO THINK FOR OURSELVES, COLOR INSIDE THE LINES, AND CONFORM WITH IDEAS THAT ARE OUTDATED.

Burt Goldman has a right to do this E-mail even though their is a war going on and we let someone represent all of our unique people.

I am enlightening 1 person at a time just like Burt.

Thanks Burt for your Optimism.

Dear fellows, it’s obvious that at a certain time we’ve to say “enough is enough” to stop violence, cruelties, mis-understandings/perceptions, etc.etc.etc. which have full bad influences of nuances so to say. I am from the Indonesian archipelago, who since 1980 has been involved in the development of the Human Brain through the invention of , the science of tomoeeow, Today as has been researched by the founder, DR. Jose Silva.

Vibration Bubbles” abound as has been put forward in Gerals O’ Donnell’s teleseminar some weeks ago.

Those ‘bubbles’ has made the world shape as it IS at this very moment. I know exactly before Barrack Obama has been nominated as the 44th President of the United States of America, will have a much different attitude as the presidents before him. He’s like JFK.

All people in every walk of life and nationality has been awaken and has support him to make his ideas of a ‘United’ world society factual. This then will evolve of the idea of a <World Paradise” Silva has dreamed of. The it will be not an “Illusion” anymore but a perfect reality.

We all could help him trough chnge our intimate behaviour in balancing the “Objective” and “Subjective” dimension in us to function at the “proper and psositve” peformance we all are longing for, isn’t it???

It depends indeed on our behaviour that should be with his. Only through the right controlled emditation performance, said balance will occur.

SO BE IT !!!

Hi Burt,

I understand what you are trying to point out. Probably the children are having more positive feedback at home and that is having an effect on them.

I wish that happens to all, that we search for the positive thoughts and eliminate the not so positive, so things get better for everybody :-)

This does not mean that we are going to be naive either — just irradiate that positive state so the ones we are around, can feel that positive attitude making things for all.

I might add that their leaders are quite articulate. Master manipulators, as a matter of fact, although some are just fooled also.

http://www.nytimes.com/2009/01/23/education/23gap.html may be a better link with the Times article. Incidentally, Rupert Murdock bought the Times. I don’t know how much control he has, but he’s the Australian that owns Fox.
People want to know why this change of power is so heated. I think it’s because this time it really is a change of power from the old guard and some of them are pathological. They have duped the nation for a long time and the con is up. The whole world is waking up. It’s believable that at some time we would take the leadership in that too. You might look at: Ponerology, the genesis of evil if you want to know. http://www.ponerology.com/evil_2b.html
Authoritarian people, oddly enough, follow leaders, like a few ex military, people used to taking orders rather than thinking for themselves. You’ll notice that the negative commenters aren’t too articulate. They are being duped by some sociopaths who got in power in our government. It doesn’t matter much what happens nest. We are in a new day and you can’t turn back history or an idea who’s time has come.

William says

Well, you can call this the “Obama Effect”. But in reality Bob Proctor and others have known and spoken about this for years and years.

What happens is, when a leader is in charge that you like. Say for instance back in the warring states era for China. There was this one family called the Wu family.

Almost all of China was corrupt at the time, in one form or another. Most of the other main kingdoms (like in the book Romance of the Three Kingdoms) claimed lies to draw people in to fight for their ends.

All of the other kingdoms, except for a few sparse ones like the Wu kingdom/family were actually families.

They had cousins, everyone in their family actually was related to them. They had a connection to the rest of the people in their “kingdom” but didn’t desire to control them.

So when people saw the Wu really didn’t do corrupt things like take their farms because the government needed it. Or like, force people to work in the military. Make people kill others. Cause others to be forced to train to go off and fight some other battle etc. Many people started to LIKE the Wu a lot.

So in the end the Wu, in the warring states era became the one force the rest were fighting against. Secretly all the others had pacts to, in the end, conquer the Wu because they were too powerful of a force, if they fought the Wu alone they wouldn’t stand a chance.

So the Wu were defeated one day when one of the other kingdoms feigned a dramatic act, they bought an important figure from the one kingdom (That ended up overpowering the Wu) . They made it look like the Wu stabbed them in the back. Then everything fell apart.

What happens in this amazing concept I call “leadership magnatism” is, when people like a leader they in turn believe everything will work out.

Not because they logically put the pieces together, because they see the guy or lady they like making decisions.

Same thing happened with Bush when he was in office but on the other side.

With the “Obama Effect” what happens is all the people who are not from “chosen” or rich families. Basically that do not have a secure future with a career (their only secure career is the military or Americorps) see that someone who has been through the mud of negative living that actually succeeded in washing the mud off is continuing to grow. To grow and finally overcome the issues that have stopped progression in his own family.

Lots of people who were in tough times in the last 10 years can easily relate to that, aka the mass majority.

So on the flip side, with Bush, what happened was tons of people who do have secure lives and families. That can easily get into any college or in any job they want. Their priorities are very different. They know what a stock or bond even looks like. They have savings, not just like 300 dollars in case you need food and your union isn’t producing work. They have thousands of dollars actually put away.

Their families were successful so they are looking for a secure way to make their successes, either more successful or to just finish up and become permanently financially secure.

The other half to them are out of sight, out of mind, for crying out loud they pay someone to pay attention to that stuff!

Nothing wrong with that on the surface because if you have reached a level of success like that, then you should have choices and options.

So while Bush was in office, those families and people were very successful because of the “leadership magnatism” concept. Everything they did worked out great for them. Their investments paid off, they got some toys, they had a wonderful time!

Heck they could play a videogame if they never had before and be good at it. One person named Bill Gates made the XBOX. It was sub par at the time, it had the components of something called an IBM 386. So what he did was give fancy names to everything involved and even found a way to charge for a free service (online gaming).

In the end HE WAS SUCCESSFUL! Very successful actually, he even made a sequel to the system. All his concepts, ideas and things worked out. Why?

Some might look at the tiny details and say “unt uhhhh it was because of this tiny detail here or that one there”.

No… the proof is in the results only.

Statistics explain exactly what I am saying.

There were set groups of people that had EXACTLY the same success rates. And if you can look at it, the common denominator was “Leadership Magnatism”.

So now, here we are in the true 21st century! Now a new leader has this amazing concept aiding him.

It’s helped me already in every single aspect of my life. I have no trouble losing weight, buying stuff, succeeding (even if I fail, something magically happens and I figure out a way to move forward regardless!).

It’s lol funny too, to see the people who can’t grasp this just make up random excuses.

Like Rush Limbaugh, he is the most extreme example.

Nothing against him, (though lots of people do have things against him). Because I do see what is happening I just hope one day he can become aware of the facts and succeed. Instead of create a fairy tale (aka more excuses) and not succeed because of fighting against the grain.

I wish though, I would have figured it out decades ago because I could have succeeded during the tough times.

It’s kind of cooky though because it’s almost more then you can just “become aware” to use. It’s like a subconscious trigger that causes some to win and some to lose .

The bottom line is this: If you come to realize the mind creates all, then you will notice that there are never any limits that you your self do not impose.

It is interesting and amazing how nothing really changed except our (or their) perception about how things are viewed, and what reality is in the present time. This shift would not have happened if we had a different, or should I say more of the same, kind of president. This shift has occurred world-wide, I’m sure. And not in just the intellectual areas. Why does no one acknowledge that President Obama is also half white? We are proud of his world altering achievements as well. We also hope he makes positive historical changes in many different areas, not just in integration. This just shows us that we all have much yet to learn and obstacles to overcome.

Thanks Burt for sharing this with us!

It’s called the “100th Monkey Effect”. I just think that in the case of the Black Society in America, the Tiger Woods accomplishments, the Condoleezza Rice’s accomplishments and ALL so many other Black people’s accomplishments World Wide meant nothing much until Obama. But the truth was that all those accomplishments were building up and Obama’s election just tips the balance one last time more and the 100th Monkey Effect happened. Suddenly after black people in America have been feeling 2nd class Citizens for ever suddenly we are finally all equal. It was about time.
Have I seen the effect ?… the effect is all around us. Suddenly black people have made it.
The effect on our future is that finally I will be able to stop apologizing for being white and now black people do not have an excuse to be less than what God originally wanted them to be. Everything they wish by personal effort.

The “Obama Effect” elicited quite a lot of commentary. Something tells me it was probably a good thing yet another part of me cringes. There needs to be a balance. Too much adulation of a human being is a dangerous thing both for the adored and those who are adoring. I also feel greatly disappointed to read some of the negative messages which are obviously, to me anyway, coming from people who are very closed and fearful of Black people. I know some Blacks have and do act out their resentment and hostility– and this is done basically out of ignorace and very deep pain. I am old enough to have a memory of the days when Blacks were all considered inferior, 2nd class, and of undesirable character. Many White people cannot imagine being a member of a minority group which has been historically shamed, berated, rediculed and treated as if less than human just because of their RACE. Unfortunately this kind of history in poor, struggling, angry, uneducated communities where few if any Whites live contributes to hostile and stupid behavior whenever they encounter Whites– particularly if they sense that White people are suspicious of them or afraid of them. These are the people who have not discovered or come to believe that they possess, i.e. any special talents, or worth as human beings and live in an environment of ignorance, poverty, and violence where no one is much appreciated or respected. I would say that some understanding of this would help to avoid blaming Black people as a whole for the actions of some because most Black people are good hard working Americans who take pride in themselves as good citizens of their communities and as citizens of the United States. People have to remember that all the African Americans in this country who have experienced mistreatment, disrespect, embarrassment, and cruelty of all kinds just because of their race have not died off. There are still millions of them who are still very much alive, most of whom have been willing to forgive, move on, and up as it has been possible for them to do so.
I suppose we need this dialogue and it has been helpful for me to write about it but I guess I was a little naive in thinking the posts on the subject would all be positive and insightful. Actually most were good– but it is clear we still have a lot of work to do.
Meanwhile, I am rooting for Obama and the ability of people to come together and work for the common good!!

Hey MEB. Sorry to be a spoil sport, but in reality, there is no ‘fair’ or ‘unfair’, everything just ‘is’. Human beings put their own spin on whether something is ‘good’ or ‘bad’. And each one of us is creating our own reality in every second of every minute of every day. However, with the help of the media, among other things, we have learned that it’s easier to go through lifes’ little problems if we can blame someone or something ‘out there’ for our situation. The greatest thing that anyone can do for themselves is to start taking responsibility for your own situation, circumstances, all of it. If you take responsibility, that means that whatever it is in your life that sucks right now, you created it. And if you created it, and you don’t like it, it also means that you have the power to create everything differently than the way that it is now. If somebody else did it, then you’re a victim, at the mercy of forces outside yourself over which you have ZERO control. I don’t know about you, but as for me, I’d lots rather feel like I’m in control, even if it means admitting that I’ve made some pretty bone-headed decisions in the past. At least they were MY mistakes, and I’m not blaming luck, or fate, or karma, or ‘them’ or whatever.

Reply to Helen Lawrie: In your post to write:

Does he think with a coloured mind or one that is focused on humanity and creating a better world for his children to grow up in? Would he have not bothered working all those hours and dedicating his efforts to become President if he was white? Would he have thought to himself, “I don’t stand a chance against a white woman?” I doubt it. I would think that he didn’t even begin to consider his colouring until it became a media driven issue.

My response: I agree that thinking about his colour prior to running had nothing to do with his decision to run, but as he stated, it was more of a decision to see a better America for his children and all children. Understand he was a sitting US Senator before running for President.

As for African-Americans now taking it to mean that they can treat whites differently, consider this. They did not become a different person overnight. You know what they say, ‘You give an a**hole a million dollars and in the morning he’ll be an a**hole with a million dollars’. He won’t change, he’ll simply act more of what he is.

My response:

In my opinion, one shows a narrowness of thinking when one makes a blanketed statement concerning many unique individuals in one race. Basically saying we all think alike, behave alike, etc. Not all African Americans are or started acting disrespectful towards others based on the win of the first African American President, and we certainly are not ALL ASSH&&&&! Making such a statement as the one above shows just how prejudice, and any many ways why SOME African Americans do show blatant disrespect towards others of different racial backgrounds. Personally, I don’t see much interaction among human beings PERIOD! especially in larger cities. People walk passed one another every day, and rarely acknowledge each other of the same race and other races, so for such a statement to be made about disrespecting the caucasians because African Americans finally after one hundred so years, got to see someone leading this country who looks like them to show they too have brilliance amongst their people, I get that. You see, Caucasians have never had to endure a smidgeon of what historically African Americans had to in this country and around the world. Agree or disagree, I care not!

Maybe Obama did some Quantum Jumping and figured how to win the election by taking on the mindset of a white man.

My response to the above statement: Pretty much a prejudice statement that is saying that African Americans don’t have the capacity as caucasians to think about leading a nation, protecting its people, etc. A little history lesson here: We, meaning African Americans in this country and around the world are the descendants of African Kings and Queens who ruled great dynasty in Africa. We can thank the brutality and horrific acts of Slavery for taking us from our homeland against our will, stripping our forefathers of the memories of that greatness. The fact that there has been many accomplishments by us including the building on our backs of this nation for free with no pay or rights as humans in this country as seen in the constitution, it’s a wonder that we can function at all today with clearness of mind. For those who will debate me until the cows come home, that’s fine with me. I suggest to go to the library and read about the history of this country.
*********************************************************
My response:

First, what is a coloured mind? As an African American, I’ve never heard of a coloured mind. Very interesting. Does it mean, it is inferior to other cultures or what? In the community I grew up in, I was surrounded by very bright, professional African Americans. Teachers, Engineers, President of one of the largest Black owned Insurance Company lived in my neighborhood and many other very intelligent individuals who also worked in blue collar positions, but never the less were committed, intelligent, honest and loving people. Because of the stereotypical images that the Main Stream Media puts out here and unfortunately there are those in the black community who have know loyalty accept for the almighty dollar, go on the television shows, or radio shows and spew ignorant garbage or show their bodies in a disrespectful light so when you have more negative images than positive ones about a race of people, it’s easier to put the whole race in a box and say those people or All African Americans which of course is completely false are less than.

Not all African Americans started treating caucasians differently after Obama won. I for one certainly didn’t. Was I proud? Of course I was and still am.I have a respect for humanity which includes myself, so I do not make a habit of disrespecting any person. I believe, as many African Americans I know believe, to treat others as you would care to be treated. Also note this; Not all African Americans voted for Obama, and not all African Americans are Democrats. Some are Independents and Republicans. How about those cookies. See we don’t have herd mentality. As far as Obama not considering his heritage (race)until the media brought it up, that’s not true. This man knows he is an African American inspite of the fact that his mother was a caucasian and he was primarily raised by his mother’s parents who were of course caucasian. Society saw him and sees him as an African American. It didn’t take the media who basically pummeled him daily during the campaign despite the screaming of totally biasness from the right wingers who basically feel he didn’t deserve any airtime let alone be in the running for the presidency, and they are showing their prejudices very strongly, and I may add have every right. That’s what makes this AMERICA. He knows who he is. This fallacy going around that he’s half white is ridiculous. Those of us who know biology understand his ethnicity. One last word here; He cares for this country, its people and the world. It’s really sad that he’s being lied about by the mainstream media, and the right wing media(Fox News). Just because he’s of a different skin color, doesn’t make him less capable of leading this country, less patriotic or less loyal than Bush or Clinton, or any of the former Presidents who preceded him all of whom were caucasian? It’s CRAZY THINKING, and RACISM plain and simple. And of course this ridiculous labeling of Socialism is also a joke!

Good Day!

We live within universes of potentiality or potential. Then based on a myriad on events and circumstances within life experience potentiality is shaped into possibilities. Thanks Burt.

The Obama Effect is inspiring. There are many elements at play I feel. The inspiration for me is to delve deep within myself and know that what I want to achieve, I can with effort. Time is another factor.

Many people had faith in him enough to vote for him. It took a change of heart for many to get beyond perhaps preconceived notions of the past about people of color to bring this to pass. A very diverse group of people did this. It wasn’t just people of color who needed to see this change in the American way of thinking. The world needed to see this and added to the euphoria of it happening.

It isn’t just about being handed something that isn’t deserved, it is also about privilege and those with it don’t recognize that all people don’t have it to the same degree. It is by intentional slights that cause this to happen. Nevertheless one should not give up on their fellow men to change for the good. Many people who came before this president had much less to offer but because of their privilege, they were perceived as having enough to run the country effective but they proved that they could not in some instances.

This person has demonstrated great potential in the face of great odds and succeeded in achieving a goal that many before him could not regardless of hard work, and earnest effort. Yes it encourages others to see this and then catch the spirit from within themselves and do the same with their lives as well. Many have to overcome great odds in order to succeed. It can be done.

Regardless of outer trappings, this person inspires us to be a better kind of person. One of hope and proving that one person’s accomplishments helps us all and realize too that we can each make a difference. Each individual as well should do their best regardless of age, race, ethnicity and the like, to make a difference for good.

What will you do to continue the inspirational flow?

Make the effort each day is what I say. People who voted for candidates that didn’t win in previous elections but voted for this president are proud to have won this time around. People who voted for the candidates that lost this time around are smarting over the loss and really add negativity to the possibilities that this person may bring to bear great things for this country, the world, and every person on the planet. The loosing team doesn’t want to see this and therefore the negative speak becomes a part of the lexicon. Some have come right out and spoke their envy…“I hope he fails” they’ve said. It doesn’t matter that this will make us all fail. Those with great financial reserves during these hard times can lead others of this mindset to cut off their noses to spite their own faces by wishing for failure over success. Perhaps the desire to have the president fail will make some feel less able to bring their particular mind think to the fore or allow their party to win back the leadership role in the next election.

For decades the hateful things done to minority folk hasn’t been fair or a demonstration of our greatest humanity. It has been done to a people by those who feel righteously entitled.

I say, we each should work to cause a positive Obama effect with our own lives. It is time for this to come to pass.

Burt, thank you for guiding our thoughts in this fashion. I know this isn’t the track on which you wanted this discussion to run.

You have to be kidding me.

I cannot believe that supposedly intelligent people are vomiting all over themselves over Barak Obama, and an NYT article — the most biased, left wing rag that ever existed. Whose sole purpose is to continually justify to the stupid voting public why they made the right choice in electing Barack Obama Camaro, the new president of GM.…give me a break. BTW, how do you guys like being on the hook for car warranties and car payment guarantees? Do you enjoy paying for other people’s cars?

This government, his government, is so far out of bounds with the constitution it isn’t even funny. It amazes me that those that hated GWB so much for his supposed constitutional fouls are actually praising a man that in 2 months times has made it legal for the government to fire people in public companies, take over banks, hire a fraud and a tax cheat for the head of the treasury while he imposes his dimwitted “stimuless” bill and higher taxes on the nation and trillion dollar deficits as far as the eye can see with his BS health care, global warming carbon tax and everything else the far left is using to push this country over the brink.

Now he humiliates America on his latest trip, bows to some Saudi oil sheik, runs down America to appease his socialist buddies in Europe, and actually entertains the idea of a one world currency and giving up the sovereignty of our nation.

In addition, he wishes to destroy America’s defenses and get rid of nuclear weapons while terrorists are seeking to get them so they can kill us. Oh, forgot, aren’t any terrorists…Obama declared them girlscouts…they’ll all be out selling cookies now instead of bombing people and maiming them.

You people live in la-la land.…keep drinking the koolaid.

World Peace…ROFL.…more like we’re headed for a second civil war…the absolute slime that inhabits congress won’t protect our borders, won’t round up ILLEGAL ALIENS and send them home where they belong, Mexican drug gangs run rampant in all American Cities and you fools want to sit around the campfire, hold hands and sing Kumbaya.

Suddenly, it’s patriotic to pay taxes and voluntarily give up everything you’ve worked for to the lazy and irresponsible. Last I remember, we went to war with the greatest empire in the world over a 2 cent tax on tea, but suddenly it’s OK for our own government to rob us and go to war with their own citizenry.

Suddenly it’s OK for the government to waste untold billions on crackpot UNSCIENTIFIC politically driven global warming schemes to tax you even more. I hope you enjoy paying $3,000 more a year on your electric bill for his phony carbon tax plan while at the same time we head into a cooling period where you need even more heat.

He refuses to drill for our own oil because he has an agenda to push people into tin cans with wheels that run on batteries or vegetable oil.

I am dismayed that in your enthusiasm to see “world peace” you freely give up your common sense. World Peace will NEVER happen as long as government reigns…they are too corrupt to permit it.

We now have a government that feels it can do anything it desires. Take away private property, control private business, destroy the value of our currency and give our sovereignty to another body. And it’s fools like all of you that permit it to happen.

Maybe you’ll see the light when it takes a wheelbarrow of our worthless currency to buy a loaf of bread.

Unbelievable.….…I’m outta here and off this list of Burt Golddigger forever.…good luck to all, just keep your heads in the sand, it will all be ok…lol

But after a month, my intuition told me that he was not someone to be trusted. Very good comment from Hellen. Women would not be taking to the streets and treating men badly if Hilary had won. Let’s all respect each other. Obama, after all, is not 100% black. One half of him is white, so he belongs to everybody. Black people alone cannot claim him as their own, he also belongs to the white race, and most importantly, to the human race. People will always think racially and unless whites can accept the black in Obama and the blacks can accept the white in Obama to see that he represents and embodies the very best in both races — we are in more trouble than we realize.

The only thing new here is the names: recycled history with updated PR spin. Identification with a strong role model has always had an empowering effect. I personally chose not to identify with a political puppet.

In response to Karen’s post:

So you are saying not even in a subtle fashion that you deserve as a caucasian the utmost respect from non-whites if I understand you, so the fact that they don’t bow as you walk pass, you consider that an insult and they are acting above their station in life. Now Karen, how equality like of you to have such an attitude. You owe any human being of any hue the utmost respect because they are as you are, A HUMAN BEING. I would hope you get this as feedback to an inner prejudice.

Got to admit that for a ‘wellness and enlightenment’ site, there seems to be a lot said about Mr Obama and some of it very negative. What happened to all the lessons that everyone’s been taking on getting their life in order and progressing to a higher level of consciousness? I’m wondering if Mr Obama takes a look at himself in the mirror each morning as says, “You is one fine looking black dude,” or “You made it kiddo! You went for the prize and you got it.” Does he think with a coloured mind or one that is focused on humanity and creating a better world for his children to grow up in? Would he have not bothered working all those hours and dedicating his efforts to become President if he was white? Would he have thought to himself, “I don’t stand a chance against a white woman?” I doubt it. I would think that he didn’t even begin to consider his colouring until it became a media driven issue.

I’m sure if Hilary had got up there and taken the prize (if she hadn’t pulled out), there wouldn’t be women all over America suddenly taking to the streets and treating men differently because they’ve got one of their sisters in the White House.

Maybe Obama did some Quantum Jumping and figured how to win the election by taking on the mindset of a white man.

And as for influencing others, we always seem to look for someone to look up to, to lead us, to immitate and inspire us, so why is that there is such a backlash over the fact that it is now Obama that has become that person? Mr King did a great job, but that’s history and you can’t keep inspiring people for long enough once you are gone. We all need living examples to live up to, especially the young.

I didn’t vote for him. I’m an Australian and I would have to say that racial prejudice will always find its way into people’s heart. We need someone to blame for everything. Here it’s always the immigrants taking our jobs, or the Aboriginals getting too many Government handouts, or the Lebanese getting away with rape, or the Albanians bring their mafia attitude into the country, or the US bikie gangs recruiting Australian’s, or.…

Whatever! Get over it people. Think not what your President can do for you, but what you can do for yourself.

Live life, don’t spend all of yours analysing the motives behind others’ lives. Get into your happy zone and imagine yourself a better world and then create it.

Thanks Mate

Obama was ‘chosen’ to be where he is. The Americans have
Been duped for years, thinking that they really have anything to do with
Who gets in the Whitehouse. It’s a ‘smoke and mirrors’ event.
The powers that be, needed to get the focus off of them, keep the general populace ‘dumbed’ down. In comes our man. Looks who he was running against.
Ridiculous! Obama was clearly the perfect candidate.
He’s not entirely White or Black, so he can mix it up with either camp. He’s clean, honest, speaks well and He’s not been ‘tainted’ by dirty politics on his way up.

I believe that has and will continue to bring a hope and a light to the population. He is the catalyst for the change.
The black community in general has been especially inspired by his election. They have been following his campaign and using him as an example for themselves to become better people and better citizens. If this is what spurs them on, then it’s a good thing.
What bothers me is, the attitude between races doesn’t really ever go away. I still see big gaps that will only change when all our mindset changes.
The ego loves chaos. Chaos keeps our ‘minds’ away from what we really need to do and that is to focus on ‘waking up’. We are on the brink of great change for the human race.
We need to teach, heal and pray for each other so that we can all rise up to our potential, not walk around like a lot of ‘dumb’ sheep exactly what those in power want us to be. They are of a vibration of greed, power and suppression of people and have been working on their own plan for ‘one world government’ for many many years. We need more people praying and focussing on ‘goodness’ to prevail. For love to prevail.

That is what we really are. If we really knew and believed the truth of this, we would have ascended long ago. This is what Jesus was really trying to teach us. Not the garbage the ‘organized’ religions out there are feeding us for a couple thousand years!

Love is the highest emotion/vibration, it is the essence of our source, creator.
When we surrender to it, forgiveness follows, all dualism falls away and we are reunited with our God.

I’m really disappointed in how so many people are using this post as a political platform to throw spears at each other, rather than making an attempt to see the wisdom in it. A post like this in which there is a political figure as a pivot does not automatically mean that it’s trying to push any agenda or point of view on the reader.

I see Burt’s point clearly. I voted for Obama but do not completely agree with some of the plans he’s offering. However, this post is not about politics, it’s about one specific issue about how just one incident has very likely touched the lives of many youngsters. When we stop and SEE what we’re only looking at, we’ll get much more benefit from it.

Thank you Burt for all you do. You are one of the great forces that Life has given us to improve on this cosmic ball called Earth.

Well.…it’s very interesting to see all the mixed reviews of this email that Burt sent out. I, personally, believe and have been teaching my clients and students that we are 100% responsible for creating or allowing our lives. Our God given right is freedom and choice of everything we have. Whether it be a car we buy, organic food we choose to eat, vitamins we take to keep healthy, and what type (if any) of medical insurance we have for ourselves and family. People should take personal responsibility for their lives and NO one else should do that for them. Let no one else, whether it be the government or anyone else dicatate to you what is best for you. Only YOU know what is best for you. For instance, if you don’t have much income, then find a way to make more, (where there is a will, there is a way!)We are all created equal; with that ability to figure it out!If you are unhealthy, then create a better lifestyle and quality of life. People should be rewarded for their efforts NOT for their ineptitude and people should be able to possess their fruits of their labor instead of it being taken away. Everyone has that capability inside themselves to create whatever life they choose. NOT just some of us!! This country was founded on personal freedom and independence. Let’s all reflect on our founders and their original ideas. The government was never intended to provide for us from cradle to grave. Unfortunately people have forgotten the lessons of History and what they can accomplish for themselves when taking responsibility for themselves. Let’s learn, keep positive, have faith and focus on how each one of us can improve ourselves and teach others to do the same.! It is like this: Blacks liked to say that white folk kept them down all through out my life. The fact was and is to this day, it is all very personal. No one can “keep you down” without you allowing them to. When a black man became a judge on the supreme court, few (comparatively speaking) tried harder. When Black men and women became leaders of corporations (Oprah Winfrey as the best example) again, few would strive harder. The numbers of black impovershed families swelled in the cities.
Now! Now we have SEEN what a black man can do in this society and all of the myths of “The white devil keeps us down” have been shattered! No one can fall on those words as an excuse again and be taken seriously!

I say “Never Again” can anyone allow someone to fall to that old excuse when we have proof that anyone can do anything in this nation!

God Bless America!

Land of the Free and Home of the Brave!

But the trick is, be brave enough to make the effort! The freedom is already there, just be brave enough to defeat all the negative thoughts that would smack you back down. As I said, it is all personal. The one defeating you is you and your self esteem and fears.

We can all rise above those and become more.

Now and Forever

I always thought that the original version of that old saw was, “If you’re gonna talk the talk, you gotta walk the walk.” It has always annoyed me when people say, “Walk the talk”, or vice versa. How do you walk that which is referred to as talk? Or talk what’s known as walk? Just curious.

pretyyk says

I did not read all the writings yet b/.c I was disturbed by the very negative one by a woman who is angry at black people whom she accuses of using the fact that thier is a black President to put down whitres! I want to address her and her freind’s reaction that blacks are targeting white people b/c of Obama.
I know that as we think so we attract. I would like to invite them to look into her own anger and heal that. She will stop subconsciously inviting so-called “blacks with attitudes” who victimize her b/c there is a black president. Also I bet her freind has the same issues b/c we often find freinds who share our core beliefs. So I ask them to let the higer power heal them from the pain of anger and they will stop attracting black people with an attitude.
Similarly, I did an experiment with women who were angry at men. They kep t attracting abusive men. When they learn to forgive they attracted compasionate men.
Now as far as the Obama affect I think its true for many people who need role models. As a person from the Carribean I did not grow up with the same mindset that I was inferior b/c I am black. I always felt equal to whites. I was not bombarded with bad things about being black. My mom experieced racism for the first time when she came here.
It was shocking to her. She faught for civil rights and taught me to love myself even my blackness. I was told by my mom that I was not inferior and society in Amerca was hurt by slavery and oppression due to socioeconmic reasons. However, I should try to be my best b.c despit that there are more opporunities here than where I’m from. I grew up thinking my life may be harder b/c I’m black ‚but, I will make it. I think shedid the best she could and now I want to get rid of the idea that my lfe will be harder and make things come easier to me. As I write this its healing me b/c I realize my core belief in struggling is from my well-meaning dear mom!
Anyway, in my country I saw powerful black people all the time. Due to my mom, I ignored what I saw on TV as racist stereotypes and created my own image b/c my mom put another picture in my mind. However, I do belive that if an Africain Amercain born child grows up seeing only negative images of themselves on TV and the arents have not broken out of tht mindset, it is not surprising if he/she becomes what he/she sees.
This is true especially if the parents do not instill that despite racism a black person can be whatever he/she wants even the President. I admit that I did not think thier would be a black president. I admit that for me I had a limited belief that I could rise high ‚but, not as high due to race. So as an adult too see Obama its great. Its also great to see how he treats his wife b/c I see so many negative images of black men that has affected how I view getting married. When I think of a happy marriage with a black man I think if the Obamas not the abusive black men or those who hate themselves that I see in the media at times.
I do think Obama influenced blacks who subconsciously said; why bother to study b/c the white racist society will always keep me down. That mindset is self deafeating and makes one powerless. To see a person who did not beielve in that story and who rose up to be President is inspiring for everybody not just blacks. However for some blacks it raises the bar b/c they no longer have the excuse of racism. The most they can say is; I will have some racism and/or other obstacles, but, like Obama if I push through, I will still be victorios and achieve my dreams!

I posted a comment here yesterday and now it is gone. So here it is again. Obama is a cruel hoax. He works for Wall St. He is controlled by the ruling scumbag elite bankers who are trying to instill a world government under fascist rule. Let his record speak for itself.

- Obama said he would bring back the troops immediately.
” President Obama ordered his first major deployment of U.S. combat troops Tuesday, authorizing 17,000 additional soldiers and Marines for Afghanistan“
Los Angeles Times
http://www.latimes.com/news/nationworld/world/la-fg-afghan-troops18-2009feb18,0,1590275.story

- He pledged that he wouldn’t raise taxes.
He is raising taxes.

- He promised to never sign a bill without giving the taxpayers at least 5 days to look it over.
Promise broken.

- Make Government Open and Transparent
– Make it “Impossible” for Congressmen to slip in Pork Barrel Projects
– Meetings where laws are written will be more open to the public
– No more secrecy
– We will put every pork barrel project online

All of these promises have already been broken.

He has now signed HR1388 ‘the give act’ mandatory community service for all ages. (same as the Hitler youth corps)

There is so much more that is happening than you will ever know if you depend on corporate controlled mainstream media for your information.

I know most of you want to see the good side of things and bring love and peace into this world. You want to manifest your desires. But so do the corrupt criminals who run our government and are trying to enslave you. They, however, are working a lot harder than you are to achieve their goals. The only way to stop them is by not being a bunch of ignorant sheeple listening to the lies of these corrupt officials who care not for your wellbeing but only for their greedy desires.

I have seen the Obama Effect on the black community in several states in this once great country but I am finding that this effect is waning. It is significant that we now have a black president however his policies are proving to problematic for the future of our children.

In our presidents vision of the future of this country, there will be no consequences for bad mistakes. If you buy a home that you can not afford, the government will save you. Of course the reality is that your neighbors who pay their mortgages will now have to pay the mortgages of those who defaulted on theirs. As a child I was taught that you can’t take from one to give to another. To add insult to injury, the government fails to fire those politicians who had a hand in creating this catastrophe in the first place.

If the company you built is not successful, the government will give you money and run the company for you. The government will burden you with strict rules and regulations that will impede your ability to turn your company around. If the government doesn’t like the way you run your company then it can fire you and hire someone else to run it for you. It just goes to show that if you take their money you have to take their crap too.

If you don’t have a job, the government will take money from hard working people and re-distribute it to those who can’t be bothered to put forth the effort to make their lives better. If you don’t have an education, no problem. The government will pay for it on the backs of those who have worked hard all their life to try to build a future for their own children.

Don’t have health insurance? The government will save you. This is the only country I have ever heard of that considers an adult aged 30 as a child. With the new SCHIP program, now people don’t have to be responsible for their own health concerns until they reach age 31. This program counts on the taxes gained from people who smoke. While they condemn those who smoke on the basis of health concerns, they are willing to tax it even more to pay for the program. Guess what? When people who do smoke start quitting, then where are they going to get those tax dollars? It’s going to come from all of us.

For those of us who are responsible and sacrificed in order to take care of our children and now facing the possibility of rationed health care. Only heaven knows what will and won’t be allowed under the Health Care being proposed.

Getting ready to retire? Due to past intervention in the open market, all that you have sacrificed and put away as a responsible look to the future is now gone thanks to the government intervention. Those who have paid into the Social Security system by law will be in trouble too. Got a 401K? Now the new administration wants to pay back what you lost before everything hit the fan and then confiscate the funds and dole it out to you in the form of a Social Security check.

How safe do you feel now? The government is seeking to control those who have guns. You will no longer have the ability to protect yourself in your own home. Will our country as a whole feel safe? I don’t think so. All that has kept us safe in this country is now being parred down. Didn’t we learn anything from the Clinton administration? We can’t even secure our own borders and politicians state that it’s Un-American to do so.

Prayer except when done in church is no longer tolerated and yet it’s OK if you’re a Muslim. A discussion with my sons revealed that as long as there are tests in school there will always be prayer.

President Obama was a Constitutional Law instructor. It seems apparent that he has forgotten what that document stands for. He has managed to stomp all over it knowing it will take years to right the wrongs he and his administration have done.

Going Green? This is the most irresponsible excuse to tax and spend (Cap and Trade) for this country. It is arrogant to believe that people can influence the weather. If that were true, farmers and ranchers would have done it many generations ago. All this in spite of the facts that this is a fabricated lie and many scientists all over the globe can prove it.

The government is now against energy production in this country. They do nothing and yet the government receives trillions of tax dollars by just lifting a pen to write the new tax laws. We in this country can not develop our own natural resources. Tell me what’s wrong with this picture?

The Obama effect is scary to me and the future of my grandchildren. They will find that if your are successful the government will punish you for your accomplishments by taxing you into oblivion. You will no longer be able to stand on your own two feet. The incentive to become great will be gone. This irresponsible life style is run by an ever growing government who have never run a business or made a payroll. When the government runs our of money, they pick up a pen and write new tax laws instead of doing what we all must do and that is to live within our means. If this continues, our country will collapse, martial law will prevail and then maybe we can start all over.

Phil D'Angelo says

Burt! What is your agenda?
OBama is a role model for those in society that are weak in spirit as well as in mind. Those who can’t see or have not studied world history and the effect of Fascism that was prominent in the early to mid 1900’s and is rearing its ugly head again in the person of Obama and the mindless liberal leftist Congress lead by Pelosi and Reid.

The America arrogance that Obama so profusely apologized for to the Socialist elite in Europe is the very reason that the World has prospered. Americans have fought the wars while the rest of the world huddled in the corner reciting Socialist mantras. America set a new standard of achievement, pushed technology that has permitted the world to communicate and to trade goods and services. America developed management models that are used world wide and taught the rest of the world to dream and to believe that all things are possible. This is what Liberals and Socialist call arrogance.

Just look at the past 100 years of social and economic decay in Russia. Read and study Russian history or visit Russia as I have and you will see that the Marxist socialist agenda supported by the Liberal Left did not and will never work. People forced under strong Government control stop participating, Stop thinking, Stop wanting and Stop communicating and Start expecting Government to solve all their problems. Trash on Russian streets is past by because no one will bother to pick it up because the Government is responsible not the individual.

People have to realize that everything is in a constant state of change and that they are 100% responsible for the lives they live. No excuses, no complaining about what is not fair; just get up and do what needs to be done and stop expecting someone else to solve your problems. That is the American way that at least 52% of the American voters many have forgotten, never knew or are incapable of understanding.

Our current Celebrity Government must be strongly challenged by “We the People” to be balanced and minimized to permit the glow of individual achievement to light the way to future group achievements. We need a 2nd American Revolution of thinkers, achievers and common people of purpose to come forward and demand a shift to less Government and more personal responsibility. Congress which consist largely of multi-term self serving-autocrats must be replaced with two term limited qualified citizens who have a proven background in social, technical and business affairs. The Press must be neutralized. No left press and No right press. “The news just the news” not slanted and not pre-digested and the American Citizens determine what is important and valid not the nonsensical talking heads.

Finally, consider that everyone is created equal at the moment of their birth. The following moments of their lives are all up to them to learn from their failure and to revel in their success.

Obama effect? What a load of malarkey. One could hypothesize a “Indiana Jones” effect a few months after an Indiana Jones movie hit the street and have the same chance of making a valid conclusion as this “research” did.

In the world of education, it takes years, not months, to measure trends which positively correlate with a specific cause. Attributing increased academic success of black students to the “Obama effect” is just plain ludicrous at this early juncture.

The so-called researchers (really just “observers” in my mind) should repeat their study again after two years and four years (gee, just like the Iowa Basics… coincidence?) to properly determine if there really is such an effect.

Meanwhile, I won’t hold my breath.

Shauntel says

Personal responsibility is the first thought that comes to mind in reading the article, and most of the responses.

Being an AMERICAN (of african decent; a fact that shouldn’t matter because I am Human FIRST); who has been on the receiving end of discrimination from my own demographic, as well as others. I find that the only person who is really in charge of my future is ME. I always have the CHOICE to succumb, or to release. ALWAYS! It’s just a matter of how dedicated I am to my Life’s Purpose. In that, I have always innately overstood that anything is possible. ANYTHING!

I find it very disheartening that in the midst of Global Warming, and many other world wide crisis, the focus is still in a place where WE are holding ourselves back as the HUMAN RACE.

Regardless of who’s (racial demographic) test scores are higher or lower. When are we gonna focus on the fact that nowadays a good (worldly competitive) education has to be purchased from a private institution that cost more than the general public can dream of affording? I have a child in a school that is populated with children from all racial back rounds, and the school is not doing it’s part. As his parents we do more at home to educate him then school does and intends to. Which goes back to whole personal responsibility thing.

Which leads me to the debt issue, in a country where it is abnormal not to posses a credit card. It doesn’t matter whom the president is, we as a country built the debt preceding this term; together. Our reality (both immediate past and future) is one that is an effect of all of our careless living. For instance, when OUR representatives where voting to spend money on frivolous projects that did not invest in anything of importance into our communities or our future, how many of US where there at the town hall meetings to voice your opinion? Again, Personal Responsibility.

Yes, I know having a positive role model does help, even in time where the only role model some of us have is the person staring back at us from the mirror. I see not what anyone else can do for me; but what I can do for MYSELF and OTHERS. My surroundings reflect that which my heart Radiates.

America reflects that which the people of her hills, highways, plains, mountains, cities and country sides radiate from their beings. Knowingly and unknowingly.

As a country America, has a lot of growing to do. As do we all. To me; if WE were to stop the singular classification of race, I think that all this bickering could cease, and we could focus on the more relevant issues like with the Jet Streams shifting latitude, and the seasons merging or shifting. Which is causing a transitional period where our crops are producing lower numbers with each approaching season?

I don’t know; but to me when I read the quote from Buddah, ” Any change you want to see in the world you must first make within yourself.” I realized that until each and everyone of US owns up to our part in the ways of the world, without judgement and malice. OUR future as PEOPLE will remain uncertain.

Peace,

Shauntel

I so like that test cited in the article where students were either asked or not asked their race before taking a test and the results were conclusive. I think it is undeniable that people’s feelings contribute enormously to the results they achieve in life. If I feel bad, if I feel patronized or if I feel expected to fail it’s likely that I will. How do white presidents feel about their black population? How does any president feel about their poorer constituents. Can a president or his advisors be near perfect in their perception of different members of their community or must it always be who do I have to please to stay in power?

Burt,

Like several others who have posted, I am disappointed in your Obama Effect post. Your follow up email has done nothing to allay that disappointment, in fact it gives the impression of someone attempting to distance themselves from what they have said.

If you didn’t think Obama was special you wouldn’t have used such a fallacious reference as that in the NYT to make a point, unless you qualified it with a clear statement that you saw through the deception of Obama.

I have been slightly put off by the numerous marketing emails sent out for your products recently, all kinds of cutesy ones about your publisher being unhappy with the deals you’re doing etc, they don’t have the ring of truth, just a ploy to get people to buy quickly. I’m finally going to remove myself from your mailing list, as I really believe you have little to offer that isn’t available elsewhere, even if ‘Quantum Jumping’ has a sexy zing to it, it’s just more clever marketing of the same old thing, a way to make even more money for someone who professes to be concerned about teaching wisdom to others :-(

Have you ever noticed when you get to “really know” someone from a different race the color of their skin disappears?

This election was not about race but the best candidate for the job and in my opinion neither candidate was right for the position of President of the United States. Obama is destroying this country as we know it and our Country’s core values are shifting. We didn’t become the United State of America the country EVERYONE wants to live in because we were weak. We became the number one country by having strong leadership with core values not subject to the whims of big business. The Bible teaches us to be debt free and love one another. We are now more debt ever imaginable and there is hatred among the masses. I don’t care about the color of your skin as long as you hold up the core values of God, Family and your neighbors.

Let the lenders fail — they made a lot of bad decisions. Let the auto makers fail — they made bad decisions. Let Wall Street fail — they made bad decisions. When I’ve made bad decisions — I’ve failed and gotten up a better and stronger person, they will too. New business practices will emerge that are stronger and better. Let the small business flourish and not be taxed to death. Let the people and the local communities make decisions. If you have less Government interference the more the people of the United States will grow strong again.

Let’s get back to basics… families need to take care of their own and not depend on Government assistance and the collection of massive taxes by those who do work. Church’s must take care of their parishioners in times of need. Communities must take care of the residents.

The Federal Government should be taking care of the bigger picture our National Security, protect our borders and stave off terrorism.

effect ‚When people look up to someone, as a role model or for what ever reason, doesent this happens.
They do this because they themselves fell inadequate.
So why give Obama the credit????
I dont think we ought to find things to attribute to Obama or anyone else unless they truly deserve it.and clearly he does not.
As far as he being African American That simply is not true .Is it not true he is just a white as he is Black which by definition is called a Mulatto.
Why is it that because people desire something so bad that they distort the real facts.
On a more positive note I commend him for getting where is ‚even though it was by deceit of the American public, but none the less he got there.
People will eventually see that, all of thier constitutional rights will be taken away, and they will work harder for less and they will have to give to others that dont work, and WHEN this happens and it will because, thats what he believes , Then you can applaud him for he truly would have caused it.( the socialism of the USA)That can truly be caused the Obama effect
THE FUTURE WITH HIS Beliefs, along with the collective consciousness of lemmings will insure this .
Be your own person, take responsibility for yourself, stand up for what is good, give to others that deserve it,and above all love yourself along with others.and see the effect that has.

Change we can believe in? Did anyone have a clue just how much change he has in mind?

Jan says

I can’t say that I am for or against Obama. I don’t have any choice but to deal with what ever/however he chooses to run this country because no one in almost 100 years has paid much attention to the Constitution. What I am aware of, is that when ever anyone grasps that their way of being in the world is open to change, change is now possible. As someone who works with inner city people, it is good to see hope (even if only a little) where there has been none before. I think that the belief that change is possible, makes change possible. Namaste

Obama is positive. He says, “We CAN!”

Americans were SO READY for someone who wasn’t trying to make us afraid.

Listen, we know from the Law of Attraction, that if we are thinking “terrorism” and “violence” and “disaster” that is what we’re going to get.

Obama is talking “jobs” and “repair America” and “working together” again.

Isn’t that a good message? I don’t understand why so many people seem to be afraid of this?

This is positive modeling as Burt mentioned. Obama grew up in Hawaii, where it is beautiful. His expectation is for life to be beautiful. Let’s ALL join him in that.… So far, it’s only 60% of Americans.

Recently I’ve been reading about people who succeeded magnificently in life despite failing miserably at school. This has been a big boost to me as I didn’t realize it was possible. It seems to me that educators would do well to consider a persons feelings about whether they succeed at something or not into account. Objective criteria can be worthless to a student if they themselves don’t have a sense of success.

I think the study showing that a student’s feelings about stating their race before a test can effect their clarity of thought is very significant.

Another point, not changing fast enough is now thought to the reason for aging. Not changing isn’t much of an option.

Harold says

It’s good to know the science. They are finding that the subconscious is a tiger on the back of a monkey, our conscious mind being the monkey. If you can get that and that it is much more powerful than the conscious mind and that we can access that power, a million times faster than conscious thinking, then I’m sure you will want to learn to use that genius within. You can’t be negative or closed minded. Anger and fear are enemies of thought so dropping negative judmental, bias words has to be your key tool.
Basically it processes vast amounts of information, but you have to get it out and blocking thoughts is what blocks it’s out put. Besides, intuition goes through your center for compassion in the front center of the brain, so thinkgs that gurus have always said, like love, gratitude, thanksfullness, forgiveness, the goleden rule, love you neighber are all things that open the door to the whole brain thinking. There you have it.

I appreciate Shelley’s posting as she actually has read the article. If the premise is true, good. Unfortunately, Obama is the wrong leader of our country which is a Republic. He is trained in political philosophy which is counter to our Constitution, has even said our Constitution is not appropriate — appropriate for his plan for the United States of America. He is immature, incompetent for this challenge, breaking many of his campaign promises in first 70 days (good reason for this and fits his plan), pushing radical agendas, has aligned himself with unethical and un-American persons and shows contempt for this country. The leader of our country should be proud of the positive aspects and not denigrate us. The U.S. has given more, effected more for the World’s downtrodden and oppressed than most other countries and Obama is emphasizing our failings. He is diminishing our Sovereignty in many of his actions. He has young people pledging their allegiance to him, the man, rather than to America. Do some of you refuse to see where he is leading us? If your best friends and associates were law breakers, anti-American (while living the blessed American lifestyle), anti-Constitution, would you expect to become the leader of America? Well, he is a charismatic speaker who promised change and the change we are getting is not — I promise you — what you will be happy to have. If you study History, you will be informed. But many of you do not know your History or your current events globally.

Now, I have been color blind since I was born. I dearly loved the first black man I ever met, a missionary from West Sierra Leone, Africa, who stayed in our home. I do not discriminate — ever — on race or color. There have been many great black women and men to emulate. I applaud that we have come to the point of electing a black man and the fact that he is mixed race does not alter that. But he is the wrong man for America. I sincerely believe he is not qualified on grounds of citizenship to serve as our President. Why would he spend more than one million dollars to keep his citizenship and birth and University records from the citizens? No, this man is leading us into a Totalitarian existence. I pray he will be unsuccessful to move us there. I pray he will mature, stop the path he is on and realize he is in the greatest country on earth and be thankful. He has mesmerized too many and very powerful money people and the media promoted his rise to leadership without the voter’s becoming deeply informed as to his agenda.

Pray for peace, work for peace, promote love for everyone. Do not be deceived, but pray for the deceiver. Be vigilant. Be thankful. Your quest for knowledge and wisdom begins in love and ends in love. The man of the hour is Masuro Emoto, who’s research is moving toward World Peace. His research will change the world for good, not for greed and control in hands of the elitists. I am a grateful American. I wish you all love and light and joy everyday.

And to some of the skeptics, I only want to address one point at this time. The study was with adults, not school children. If you read the article, please note that it said the participants ranged from 18–63.

I believe the point was that the change this election brought with it, allowed some who felt disenfranchised, to access their own knowledge base more effectively, as the shadow of doubt was removed by their change in perception.

The article also stated that more studies would be required.

I find it fascinating that some who claim others are being somehow bambozzled, have not themselves taken the time to check their facts before they have closed their minds and opened their mouths (so to speak). I hope they can find a way to quiet their fears so they can be open to the possibilities that life has to offer to those open to them.

And I forgot to say, Thank you, Burt for your works and posting such a fine conversation starter.

I see the Obama Effect as a true sign of the power of Hope. Millions of disenfranchised feel, at last, a part of the fold. There is still much work to be done, but it’s a start. It is not only the skin color of the president that makes his place so powerful, but his ideals and the foundation of what he has brought to the table, namely hope, and an empowering message that each of us can contribute to the world in a positive way, to bring necessary change even to the least of us.

I live in a community that is very hesitant to the idea(s) of change. And for a moment in time many closet “hopists” shed their beliefs that things will always be the same to embrace the idea that they could not only see something believed to be miraculous but also participate in creating the miracle. Sadly many fell back into their comfort zone of misery (mostly white, both liberal and conservative, from those I’ve spoken with in my community). It is my hope to find a way for them to feel included in this world changing time, as well. One step at a time, I suppose.

Rebecca says

I have seen both positive and negative. Mostly positive.

However, I have heard of some negative things, as in some people having an attitude. One of the deejays on the local radio station in Austin said that he was accosted at a stop light by several black men, and one of them said, “Obama’s the president now, so we can do whatever we want to do”. I’m, like, so, since Obama is president, it’s okay to act like ignorant jerks? I thought Obama would have a more positive impact. I’m sure Obama would be appalled if he knew of this sort of behavior.

I’ve noticed mostly positive things, though.

And, I have often thought of Condoleeza Rice, Colin Powell, and so many others long before Obama even came on the scene as being great role models. Hey, even in the media, we have Morgan Freeman as a black president in Deep Impact, and also he has played God in two movies. I know they are just movies, but how is that for a positive role model? God is portrayed by a black man? They never have had God portrayed by a woman, to my knowledge. That’s another hurdle people need to overcome.

My first thought when Obama was elected president was that finally, after a long time, we finally have class back in the white house. He and the first lady strike me as a class act. I was never a fan of the Bush admin, and quite frankly, felt a very evil presence throughout that administration, to the point I couldn’t stomach watching Bush or Ashcroft or Cheney or Rumsfeld speak. I’ve never experienced anything like it before, with any prior president since I’ve been an adult. And, many people, including public personages, have admitted the same thing about the Bush admin.

I am also aware that there are things going on behind the scenes, and that presidents are picked ahead of time by the powers that be. Obama was as well. There are times when I think he is wonderful, and other times, I’m not sure how much of an agenda he might have. I hope for the positive, though, but I’ve just been exposed to a lot of material that says that presidents are picked, many times long before the public even knows they are alive. There’s a lot of stuff going on behind the scenes, and if people think that our government loves us and is watching out for our best interests, they need to think again. There is a dark cabal that actually runs the world behind the scenes. Things are just not as simple as the controlled media and the powers that be would like the general public to think.

There is a part of me that likes to think that Obama will bring a lot of good to America and the world, and that he will not go along with TPTB’s plans. I prefer to think positively in this respect, but I have heard of the movie The Obama Deception, and other things, and I’m not so sure that Obama is so squeaky clean as people would like to think. Right now, I am taking a wait and see attitude.

Even so, I believe that Obama being president is obviously a very positive role model for many people. As a woman, I think that if we EVER got a woman in the white house as president, that perhaps women would feel that we were finally given a chance to do what only men have done since the beginning of American history. I don’t know why we haven’t had a woman president yet. Jeez, even in extremely chauvinistic countries, there have been female prime ministers … Indira Ghandi, Golda Meir, Margaret Thatcher (my Mom met her and loved her), the beautiful woman, Benazir Bhutto, as well, in Pakistan, as some examples.

I’ve always thought that it shouldn’t be about race or gender, as to who should be in the white house. It should be about who is the best PERSON for the job … period.

Sorry to ramble on, but all of these things have been going through my mind since Obama was elected. Many of us are jaded as to politicians in general, and I think many of us are taking a wait and see attitude.

I also like to be informed as to what is going on behind the scenes, and although much of it is unpleasant to know about, I’d rather know and make my own decisions based on a well-rounded background of knowledge, rather than just hope that everything is airy-fairy wonderful from a new age perspective (and I am very metaphysically inclined). I guess the best thing to do is to be informed, and to do our own research and make up our own minds.

Think for ourselves and question authority, no matter who that may be.

Joyce says

Hi Burt
I believe we have the Obama Effect because he has tapped into a sense that he understands what so many people in this country strive to achieve, The American Dream of prosperity. With the financial crunch many have lost their bearings, people who felt secure in their retirement years now live with the prospect of working until they die or can no longer work. President Obama has a presence seldom seen in a politican. His other big draw for me is that he appears to be reasonably honest for a politican. The study does bear further research with a larger study base but is encouraging. I believe our future is what we make of it. President Obama ran on a platform for change and that we do have to some degree. One person can only do so much then the rest of us have to do are part. Only history can tell of the true impact of Mr. Obama being elected President. Our children deserve the very best and I think because Mr. Obama has young children he is going to do his best to make the lives of children in general better through education and hopefully a secure and forward moving country.

Millie says

Not only President Obama, But the First Lady Michelle as well. Girls and women alike aspire to be more like her. Isn’t America great?!

Judy B says

You’re kidding right? The kool aid is flowing free. Obama is our first mulatto president. He is half black conveniently not ever mentioned. That aside, the guy is taking our country down the path of socialism. You want to see our future? Look at Europe. He’s running the American Auto industry so he can keep his union voters happy. He’ll soon be running our money, our health care, and food production. He has allowed North Korea to launch a missile
and wants to disarm all of the peaceful nations while the rogues have nuclear arms. He will disarm the citizenry so that only the criminals and terrorists will have guns.
Get your heads out of the sand. I don’t care what race this man is, he is a disaster. You might take notice when the government decides who gets medical treatment and who is expendible. Stop reading the NYT and get information from other sources besides the democrat arm in the media. He’s bowing down to the Saudi royalty. What the hell is that? We are all losing our shirts and he is having cocktail parties every Wednesday nite at the White House. His wife has a new outfit for every different person she meets. She has worn at least 3 a day on this trip and he’s telling us ‘we’ have to sacrifice. What do you mean ‘we’ Kimosabe. He spent 190 million dollars on his inaugural party. Are you people blind? Why wasn’t every one all starry eyed when Clarence Thomas became the first black Supreme Court Justice, or Condoleeza Rice, the first black woman to be Secretary of State or Colin Powell, the first black Secretary of State. Oh that’s right, they didn’t wear the lefty stripes and they had to be minimized. In Justice Thomas’s case they tried to destroy him. Where were you all then????? I’m done getting emails from this site. When you mix politics w/ spirituality, I’m done. I’m interested in enlightenment not brain washing.

Dear Burt,
These are indeed unusual times for most of us and bring challenges that many of us never imagined we would face. They seem to bring out the best in us and the worst in us (to paraphrase Charles Dickens…“they were the best of times, they were the worst of times…”)
Your question has generated the entire range of reactions, from the learned responses of political debate to the learn-ed responses of indivuduals viewing how this all fits in to our journey upward along the higher path. I enjoyed reading about the 100th Monkey on the internet after it was mentioned. Are we heading towards group quantum jumping?
Maybe enlightenment is only achieved when all sentient beings have achieved it, not one by one. Your mission to help us along that higher path becomes you! Thank you.

Sue says

Obama effect? This could just as likely have been the Jack effect or Jill effect or whatever name you want to put in there. It all boils down to what one believes about themselves. To me, this “Obama effect” shows how externally focused we all are, regardless of race, color or creed and have bought into the belief systems of what we should be-can and can’t achieve. What kind of a world would it be if we all looked within and truly believed in and appreciated everyone’s infinite capabilities?

Claudette says

There is no “Obama” effect. He was elected because of shrewd, calaculating, organized people who planed exatly how to get him elect4ed for what they wanted. It’s nothing but politics. He isn’t a smart man with profound ideas like our forefathers had. He’s riding the tide and spends enough of our money in fuel for Airforce One that could feed thehomeless for countless onths or pay for the health care system he wants that won’t help anyone. Why the Obama subject is even connectedwith you, Burt, is beyond me. I am very surprised you would put him into a category with great people working miracles. Obama was taught and coached on how to speak about nothing to attract crowds. Time magazine has never impressed me, either. I am very surprised you would promote Obama on your website.

Katrina says

President Obama is a catalyst for our belief in higher possibility. Even amidst all the fervor, he seems to realize that this is not about him but about us. For the first time in my life, I’m deeply proud of my country.

They have been increasingly leftist biased for at least 40 years.
I simply can’t believe we elected this judas to office.

Margaret says

The reason for this I think is because African-American people have long believed that no matter how good they are they would not suceed because of their heritage (not because they are stupid) so they did not bother trying, but Obama’s election would have instilled hope in them besides all the other under dogs not only in America but all over the world, that “Yes you can” but you need to try and persist and most of all believe to eventually suceed.

Obama to me is a human being who can and will make a difference throughout the world. In our home we were taught that every living soul was just as important as the other. There was no race, colour, size, etc., just people who deserve the best life has to offer. There is too much talk about difference and not enough sbout all of us being God’s children. Obama understands that and he will help everyone he comes in contact with. The USA is our neighbour and we are just excited about this President as they are. Keep the love coming.

joe says

Well, well, guess I’ve been censored. So much for disagreeing with the messiah obama.

jerry says

Well…
I’ll say this, for all intents and purposes, Obama is set in place,by an elite group, to further their plans. To the naked eye, he is the appeasement for so many woes,on so many levels. The African Americans, finally get to stand tall…as equals. The psychological factor…black president,so all blacks must be on their best behavior and do their best,as well as, all ethnicities. There is something more to it.On a global level…America once detested,is now to be loved again,in time.I understand, that my post will not necessarily be accepted.I will tell you this, under his charm and charisma, lies his intent. If Obama had not been elected, the u.s.a., would have been thrown into chaos, that would have led to a police state. All rights and freedoms, stripped from its citizens, under the guise of forgein threats. Then, the rest of the world would follow, this to curb all negative aspects…but the ultimate outcome for us all…enslavement. Obama will appease all negatives in the world…and move towards the idea of oneness, but beware,he has buddies in/of the same circle of his predessor.I personally, would like nothing more that to live in a world of love, peace, and joy! However, we have alot of suffering to go through before that is attained. Obama is the catalyst,we will get there all at once, rather than through coercion. We will gladly renounce, than it be forced upon us,had he not won the election.Just, as this supposed global crisis, created by the inventors of the money system. If I make claims that are outlandish, look at president Woodrow letters, the Boston Tea Party real reasons for revolting. Also,in Europe in the past. The same players that run everything, have done all the ills and woes, that the poor folk had/have to live through. So, in closing, Obama is part of the same network…a puppet for the elite. What is seen,is that, people all over the world are in need of change from the corruption. And because of his skin colour(Obama)looks like the white dove bringing the olive branch(hope for all). Beware all, beware all, beware all, beware all!
I am truly sorry for raining on the parade…TIME WILL TELL,the truth will surface. If I have offended, I apologize…there are to many ambiguous things about!
The truth will prevail…I hope.We will only better ourselves, when we loose all negative effects…greed, indifference, complacency, lust, despondency, distraughtness, etc…
Feces will have to hit the fan, first! Since,we are short on concession, compassion, and compromise. This for our immediate neighbour…let alone people we don’t know, or care about. So forgive me all…this is what I see,and feel.I hope and pray that I am wrong!!!

Impossible. Perhaps what is being referred to is a shift in –perception– of possibilities … what people believe they can accomplish. To believe that the disparities and iniquities of America can change OVERNIGHT is ridiculous. As a “man of color” I still “catch it” from race-motivated people on a regular basis. Certainly Obama’s accomplishment, or America’s accomplishment in electing him, is noteworthy and symbolic of social evolution in America. It is not, however, a sign that America has changed enough to eliminate the gaps perpetrated by persisting human ignorance, bias, and hatred. For real, I have a white neighbor who “snarls”, another who spits, when they see me! … and on more than one occasion I have been passed over or left out in favor of someone who was less educated, less experienced, less competent than I … but was Caucasian. America is evolving, of course, but it’s a delusion to think that this “result” can be interpreted as anything other than perceived possibilities. Immediately after election? Nothing could change that way, let’s be real.

I am sure success for Obama is not how far he got, but the distance he travelled from where he startred and success to me is having peace of mind, not being jealous of anybody, again anybody being content. The most successful HUMAN being I know was my Father and he never had anything financially. See, MONEY does not always bring success. PEACE OF MIND DOES.

First of all I am a bit skeptical of the empirical authority of one article in the New York Times. Secondly and this is vastly more significant, If these children had good role models in their homes and were aware of all the forces for good in this nation of all races and genders this would not even be of any significance other than a point of history. I understand that you are attempting to show a lesson on the power of connectedness Burt but if everyone understood and were taught that we are all heirs to much more when we connect with the powers of heaven and rise above temporal quagmires like social and economic hatred and anger all our talents will be manifested and magnified in multiples bigger than Obama’s Budget. Phil

Well here is a thought… the Obama media will work to sell the idea that things are better since he has been in office… his administration certainly use scare tactics to sell these unbelievable stimulus packages. Ok so the government is saying that illegal immigration is down since they have spent billions of our tax dollars on a fence between the US & Mexican border… well that is simply not so because the truth is that the human traffickers are just as busy as ever escorting illegals across the border and the fence is not stopping anybody. There is a lot of nievete in most of these responses. To many the “Obama Effect” can be saying:“If you are at the right time and the right place with plenty of agenda makers behind you…you don’t have to have the experience or even the smarts to pull it off”. good going Carl you nailed it.

I read your post and the only thing that I can say is that you are not paying attention. The Obama “Change” is not the change we need and so many Americanized Brits are crying fowl on this one… they don’t want to see this movement toward socialism… that is why they left Brittan and came here.

Mary says

Well I don’t see how he is influencing children any more than Condoleezza Rice could. She is a real Black American Super Hero. Obama says one thing and does another. He says, “You can’t pay your mortgage? I’ve got a fix for that.” You made a bad decision? I’ll take away your consequences.” Is that how we want our children of any race to grow up? I want self sufficient, confident children that can hold their own and not to have to depend on the government to tell them when and how and to be sitting by the mailbox waiting for their government check. Why don’t we take a look at Condoleezza’s story?

The Obama Effect is very real — but it’s alive and well in ALL of us. When you BELIEVE your perceived limits have changed — THEY HAVE CHANGED. It also works in the converse. If you BELIEVE you have limited ability — you do have a limited ability.

When we go to work on changing our beliefs and then energize our new ones with passion as Obama has done — our whole world changes. He is not the first to do so and through awareness like this WE CAN ALL BE WORLD CHANGERS!

Paul says

Just the first stages of humanity’s awakening. Mans thoughts still need to be changed as an elder had put it. America will continue to see massive down turns in economy and the world will encounter massive sit downs and strikes. Earths grate lesson to show its is alive and well like its children. The North American Indian knew days like this were coming. Some are tunely aware. The whole of humanity must change the way it thinks. Energy goes somewhere, like the black holes it will create new life. We encourage all to see the state of evolution of the mind growing better and better every day. Change the way you think before it becomes to late there is an existence beyond our own physical being.

Without a doubt, Obama is the world’s answer to a FERVENT prayer for CHANGE. It was
so powerful„ this prayer, that the one who came as the answer to that prayer
is much more than he seems. He is capable of creating the impossible, because
he KNOWS that the Spirit that sent him, that goes with him, makes him and all around him so much than they seem. . With God all things are possible. Peace lives at
the heart of Obama. That alone will get him anywhere. To say YES WE CAN is a
statement to the Universe of great belief. And even peace on Earth is surely on the horizon.

Toni says

Hi,

I agree with what most (not all!)people say above, and would add that I see the Obama Effect is really a manifestation of The Hundredth Monkey Effect — in that, as certain beliefs and understandings emerge, take hold, and gradually increase their exposure, there comes a time when a quantum leap occurs quite suddenly –and everything changes for the majority, whether they apprehend it or not.

This is because of the changing consciousness of humanity (and other creatures)and that consciousness is a real, and very powerful energy.

This is science, not just ‘metaphysics’; the intriguing power of ‘memes’- many of the examples mentioned above show awareness of this phenomena.

Try Dr. Lyall Watson’s ‘Lifetide’ as a mind-blowing scientific exploration of this massive force (consciousness). The phenomena of the Japanese monkeys is mentioned in this book too.

This is why the effect on the students may have appeared ‘instantaneous’ –the work of a quantum leap in universal consciousness –and race consciousness.

I’m not saying that the study was/was not scientifically conducted, but I do know that media usually hypes up certain angles which may not be the main/real results of a good study..

But as an educator, I do know that raising the bar, and high expectations, are heavily influential on any person’s achievement. Dramatically, even.

I read Obama’s first book before I had any appreciation of him in politics (I’m not American) but if anyone wants to understand the person, READ IT!

He may look half-black, but his guiding force was his white Mum, and white grandparents, set in multi-cultural, multi-racial surrounds– a fascinating story…

He is a special stepping-stone in human history, and it’s truly fitting he is neither here nor there, yet with connections to almost every continent on earth. He is black and white, and brown.

We don’t want another insular, fearful personality driving the most powerful nation on earth.

As the manifestation of a particular Hundredth Monkey Effect, Obama must have therefore ridden on the tide of the hard work of ALL the people who came before him, who made “HIM” possible (= a quantum leap — seemingly out of the blue, yet really having resulted from a slow-growing human consciousness reaching a critical threshold level of awakening and desire, bursting forth suddenly).

This is NOT politics! This is human power (not only Obama’s)..You can get religious if you like, but, it’s really human spiritual, mental, and heart power as a group (global) conciousness (or unconsciousness!)

..And yes you can compare with Hitler’s Germany, or with any surges of distorted beliefs– They start with a seed and feed on a growing acceptance by the general populace, flamed by personalities..

But the worst of these are/were based on manipulating base desires and fears, self-interest, and inciting the ‘need’ to control others.

Obama is hardly in that category.
READ HIS BOOKS! Especially those who say he has no credentials.

I live in a part of the world where most people are honey, mocha, or coffee-coloured, or milk-tea, or milk-chocolate with all sorts of fabrics and flavours in their ancestries. Obama is one of us. (I happen to be ‘mixed-white’ a long way from my roots!)

Obama is not instrumental in manifesting only an American phenomena, otherwise the rest of the world wouldn’t have been so unprecedentedly, emotionally, involved!

This is a GLOBAL 100th Monkey Effect, and deeply significant.

THAT IS WHY BURT IS BRINGING IT UP IN THIS SITE!!

Why do you think Burt is working towards a certain number of awakened people?

Read about the 100th Monkey Effect and you’ll know.

Obama has broke the curse. The curse of “slavery” and “not good enough” were genetically inprinted on the “black people’s” DNA. It is impossible for Obama to save the world, country, or anything for that matter other then Obama.. It is like thinking that a new car is gunna fill that gap in your life making you unhappy.. it doesn’t work like that.. I believe this country can change, I believe the world can change.. but it is up to every individual to be the change.. not Obama.

if this effect is real.. it proves something far greater then a mans effect on others by example.. it proves that all knowledge is there for us, and with the right mind set, you can access it all. these kids who one month don’t know the answers and the next month do without any extra active learning shows us that despite years of being told, and believing that they are lacking somehow, or not as smart, once that belief is replaced with an Idea of intelligence and achievement.. they achieve and somehow know the answers.

Laura Gabrels says

I am delighted to read of this, which I agree can be called the “Roger Bannister effect” as well as the “Obama effect” — and I also think that statistically it is not a large enough sample to speak YET with the certainty that is claimed. Whether it is the NY Times writer or someone else, I love the consideration of this — I am so relieved and delighted that Obama is our president and that he is continuing to model the spirit, thought and behavior that is an inspiration to us all. AND at the same time, I wish people would use studies like this ethically, that is, not by making assumptive leaps that are inappropriate to the data — to me, this story is just as powerful seen as a possibility rather a fact, and to me would have more of the power behind it then. We all know that statistics can be used to “prove” anything if readers aren’t trained to understand the details behind the stats.

By the way, Burt — I really like what you have done that I’ve read or heard so far, except for a few places where I do hope you pay attention to how your credibility can fall (at least with me) when/if you make these leaps — there’s a place in one of your MP3 recordings where you mention something as having been studied and then speak of having established your point as fact. I feel less trusting when I read something claiming studies back it up, but not citing sources so one could read the original for oneself. At least this is an example where you cite the NY Times reference and someone trained can read from it that the sample is too small for the claims. I think we are obligated to present info as absolutely truthfully as possible — even when it is wonderful news (to me), just not YET able to be claimed as documented fact.

Along these lines, I’ve seen online offers to get something downloaded for free, then the fine print clarifies that you have it free for a certain bit of time. If you don’t take a next step, you will be charged for it after some designated time period. I do think it is important to read the fine print. I think people who create, or produce, info, have a right to be paid for their work. But there is so much out there now, it seems especially important that we don’t leave space for misinterpretation, which happens easily enough already. The powerful new info that people such as you, Burt, are sharing on the internet (and elsewhere) is powerful enough to stand on its own. Please don’t take a chance on diluting its power by giving anyone (who disagrees) the opportunity to strike it down on a technicality, such as claiming something is more proven than can YET be really said.
Okay, thanks for the opportunity to say all that!

Anu says

Just wanted to add my voice to those who point out that the evidence here is slim, because of the small sample size of blacks in the study. It’s possible that this is a real effect, and it does make sense as many have pointed out — but the enthusiastic conclusion is premature and unwarranted. Please look at your own fervent desire to believe this “Obama effect,” because it fits with your view of how things should be.

This test demonstrates the importance of self esteem when using tests to evaluate “intelligence”. Perhaps the answer for all those with lower test marks, is not simply “working harder”, but “feeling better”.
If a person is not performing up to the desired standard, testing and possibly creating negative feelings, is counter productive.
When a person feels good about who they are, where they come from, it shows in everything they do.
The answer therefore, to negative personal results, must not be letting those results define who we are, which creates further negativity.
When we see negativity in any form, it is an indicator that profound acceptance is required, and true potential will be discovered.
All people are capable of great things.
Barack Obama, through his apparent — profound acceptance of himself, has and is discovering his potential, which is indeed great, and a great thing to witness.
The greatness that lies within us all, recognizes that light and remembers its’ presence within us.
That is the act of inspiring and being inspired.

Back in India too we are greatly motivated by Obama’s presence in the White House and see it as quantum leap in the aspiration of a common man to be anything that he wants to be if he hopes and dreams and believes in himself. I must confess that I am overwhelmed by the response. Studies have shown and proved that it behooves the child to see someone who looks like, displays some feature, quality, characteristic or visual upon which they can relate, the chances of that child attaining that goal or nearly impossible. America is a melting pot and that is why President Obama is truly an example of who you can be only in America.

As to the comments left from those who state that African-Americans seem to be hostile, indignant and have an “attitute”, I am just amazed. I am still surprised that whenever an African American shows pride, glee, unrestrained joy that it is viewed as being “uppity”.

Rudness, belligerance, threatening increase in crime, sense of entitlement. I have seen all this escalate rather than seen the more stellar attributes come forward. Powerful thoughts and opinions eloquently manifested in this forum.
I agree with many of the views expressed here. It is a fact that United States had in the past and has at the present time many leaders from mixed backgrounds that hold a position of influence and power; Mr. Obama has risen above his own. Politicians have something in common, “Big Egos”, power thirsty, I really believe that this is what drives them to politics. If this motivation is directed towards the well being of this country, it will make a difference, if not it will make a bigger hole where we will all succumb.
We have a saying in my country roughly translated “Hell is paved with good intentions” Hopefully is more than good intentions what drives Mr. Obama and his team. We have to keep in mind that he alone cannot accomplish his endeavor, we all have a responsibility to do our part or it will be futile, it would amount to rhetoric disappearing with the wind.

Hi Burt, love your material and what you do, but what is it about supposedly intelligent people that they cannot recognize a country taking a quantum leap toward socialism and slavery. Obama has always had an affinity for marxism/socialism. The information is there, just not reported by the left wing media. Being black means nothing except to those who see it as an opportunity to elect a marxist because he is black.
Seems as though the “invasion of the body snatchers” has come true. By electing a marxist to president, Americans are no longer the responsible individuals and freedom lovers they once were. Must be aliens in those bodies. Sorry Burt, as much as I like your material I could never again use material by a person that is blinded by a smooth talking con man that has pulled off the biggest con in history.

Yes, there is a difference. People forget that Obama is only 1/2 Black — the other half is White. He is capable of relating to each “clan” should he choose to do so, and if the public will let him.

The difference I have noticed is in the Pagent world. All the crowns are going to women of color: Hispanic, Asian, Filipino, and African. Not a blue-eyed blonde, not a green-eyed redhead, not a brown-eyed white woman among any of the contest winners so far. The Miss USA contest this year should be a spectacular contest of mediocre talents but with beautiful, colorful women gracing the stage.

The other difference is in the attitude I see when out in the general public — a lack of respectful treatment by non-whites towards whites that wasn’t there last year.

It’s all probably just “growing pains” as we continually explore this world and our particular place within it. Everything is as good as you make it, so make your world the very best one it can be!

But guess what? I have proof. Proof from The New York Times, no less, that President Obama has caused something incredible to happen.

… because as we surely all know the NYT is hardly a bastion of truth!!!

Why do you think the Obama Effect happened? … did it happen even …

Have you personally observed any cases of the Obama Effect? … as in people losing the ability to think and act rationally? Only from what I’ve read, as I’m not in the USA

What do you think this means for our future? … highly irrelevant, what is more potent is the harm that Obama will unleash as his term progresses, unless those who carelessly voted him into power wake up to what is going on …

Role models can be powerful that’s pretty obvious if one makes even just a half-hearted attempt to look at the subject. The question is what role is being emulated. Obama has managed to apparently seduce a vast number of people to support him, with vacuous words and promises, so that now he is free to do pretty much whatever he wishes.

So, does this mean that even more people will now believe that they can lie and deceive to achieve lofty heights? Quite possibly, as the message is clear enough, forget integrity and truth, just have a way with words, rehearse your mannerisms so that they are second nature and then you too can fool most people into giving you what you want. A sad example to set and one that is now another step towards the fall of the USA. I’m not a US citizen and have no axe to grind in respect of which candidate was elected, but it is fairly clear that the major candidates were all morally bankrupt :-)

The whole ‘Obama is the first black president’ is so full of wind that it is difficult to see how anyone, black or white, could take this seriously. It’s time to wake up to reality and as I said at the beginning, I hope you were joking, because it says a lot about the truth of what you are teaching … be interesting to see.

I believe it is the focus of the black people on their dream that has been so intense for so long. Obama’s election helped them to feel better about their dream and in their ability to feel better about it they can achieve it. The children are always better connected and thus it is easier for them to achieve it so quickly. Hey Burt,

i think it simply means that, people around the world have started noticing the performance of afro-americans. It is far too early to prophecize it as a “Miracle”.

Also, why is it that you have to create a polarisation effect to highlight your point?

The simple fact is, people around the world have to take pride that, irrespective of the origins, today accomplishment and success is based on hard work and skill…this is the message that needs to go to the children, period.

The statistics used to measure this “jump” in test scores was too small a sample size to assume widespread test score improvements. The article said, “In total, 472 Americans — 84 blacks and 388 whites — took the exam.” Only 84 blacks were cited in the sample.

It doesn’t mean the effect is not true, it just means the sample size was too small to make these broad assumptions. Additional testing is needed to see if black test scores do improve across the nation.

Hello Burt,

What a thought provoking subject. It is wonderful to see such open dialogue between one another. In viewing the posts, one can see just how open some of our hearts really are towards a mutually respectable country and world. There are some of us here who are still growing and evolving too which is just fine. I have a few comments on a couple of posts.

Jeanie Creviston: I truly am trying to understand your stance on the actions and reactions of some African Americans in your community. If you were not born as an African American, then it is very hard for you to understand slavery. Let’s say you come from the Jewish persuasion, and your family kept alive the history of the atrocities done to the Jews, and as you grew up, you were still experiencing the prejudice and unfairness systematically put in place to keep a certain race of people in a certain condition, but you had to go on with your life or just decide to leave this planet. How would you feel to see one of your own at the head of a country that historically at its foundation did brutal, horrific acts on innocent people brought to a place against their own will, and basically built a nation on their backs? I think you would be proud, have a feeling if just temporarily, of supremacy because inspite of what stereotypically has been shown of your people, you know that your people are brilliant, decent people and now the world gets to see an example of that. Now I personally don’t advocate doing harm to those who have mistreated me or my kind, but that’s clearly not the opinion of all African Americans and other people of color. If you have been shown mistreatment after the election by people of color, then I think that’s wrong. You may want to look at your own attitudes which based on your posting shows your narrow opinion pre-Obama election of African Americans even though you claim to have a few friends. Respect is earned from both sides of the coin. If you have a preassumption of someone, they will surely mirror all of your fears and assumptions right back at you. Most African Americans are self-respecting, hard working, love their families, and this country just as the many immigrants who voluntariy migrated to America do. As with other cultures, there are those in every race, who feel the need to be a victim, but that’s not the whole African American race. The attitude that African Americans want so much for free is totally unfair and untrue. Obama couldn’t have won without large support of caucasians as well as African Amrericans and other cultures. So yes Jeanie, RESPECT is earned from both sides.
Andy you posted that African Americans walk around with a chip on their shoulders, and because of this way of thinking they see more chips which translates to more negative feedback and roadblocks. You’re correct in my humble opinion. I would like to suggest to you an exercise. Try getting some true history of the African American experience from slavery to now. Then step into the shoes of an African American that you think has a chip to see their side. This may not give you more insight, but then again it may.

Thanks again Burt for such a provocative subject to elaborate on!

And, for the rest of us, the possibility of peace and prosperity returned. It was a bleak, dark time for the last 8 years for most of the world.

We love you Burt. Keep the dream alive for us!

Mikelo says

The funny thing about human nature is, sometimes we know it’s possible to do something, but we need someone to tell us that we can. There’s so many things in my life that I didn’t do, but something happened to “give permission” that I could do it, and I did do it. Black now have permission to succeed, because there’s one in the White House (for the record, he is only half-black, but that seems to get overlooked)

Of course, this can be a problem for the black people in our country who have used their increased melatonin as an excuse to do nothing. There’s a black man in the highest office in the nation, and he got there without Affirmative Action or any other such assistance. He got there on his own merit. The bar has been raised and there’s a lot to live up to now.

Of course, my comments here don’t account for the fine men that succeeded without Obama to inspire them. Those guys I look up to.

I personally think Obama is a bad choice for president. His love of gun control and taxes and bigger government makes him a bad choice, but this study shows the one bright spot in these problems: accountability for the black man.

(BTW, one person aid earlier that they’ve experience getting an “attitude” from black people, like cutting in line, being rude, etc. It’s not an isolated incident. My partner has experienced the same thing, and so has his mother. Some people need to grow up)

Many times through the years a ‘higher power’ has placed significant people on this earth to teach, to be an example, and for many other reasons. I think Obama is one of those chosen ones. I am a white 75 year old woman and I am so pleased to have Obama and his family in the White House, I smile to imagine his little girls and he and his wife roaming in wonderment in that house. I just know he wants the best for this country, and because he is half black and half white he will he will not have prejudice against either group. Of course he will be a wonderful example for all.

Katharine says

It’s all about eduction, integrity and your belief systems.

I believe anyone from any socio-economic background can achieve anything. I don’t believe in the “Obama Effect” as such because that would limit ones beliefs. We have had influential Black people, Asian and Mexicans etc. in leadership positions for many, many years. It has never been that Black people weren’t accepted it’s just that no one truly qualified ran for President before now. When Obama ran people liked his credentials and beliefs. So go to school, get an education and achieve your dreams, race does not play a role when you’re well educated or educated in a trade skill.

Anyone can achieve anything and be accepted by hard work, integrity and having a dream.

He is a time that has come. His whole campaign mantra “Yes, we can” was the inspiration that was necessary to have so many wake up. The fact that he appeared to have ‘miraculously’floated through the last two years and then right on to the presidency is what has spurred the country on. I unfortunately have a ‘conspirators’ heart. I believe he’s a puppet just as the one previous was. They aren’t really running the country. It’s the Rothschilds and the Rockefellers etc. The big money. A lot of people don’t know it was their money ‘filtered’ down that paid for his campaign. That is the sad reality of it all. You know the song by the Who, the “new boss, same as the old boss”. Well, this time we shouldn’t be fooled again!

I have not read any articles relating to such, but I have felt the shift in being more open minded, a willingness to change. It’s just another example of what happened when Roger Banister broke the four minute mile. Up to that point it was said that no human being could run a mile in under four minutes, but after he broke the four minute barrier, just in a short while, more and more started being able to do it. People listen to, and believe what ‘they’ say about everything from health to the economy, especially if the media talks constantly about it (whatever ‘it’ may be). When someone has a desire to do, or be, or have something, and they let that desire become an obsession (not meaning ‘obsession’ in a negative way), and think about doing, or having that thing on a regular basis, then whatever it is will become their reality. Up ’til Obama, there doesn’t seem to have been anyone interested in talking about positive role models for black youth. Now that has changed. If a person can see even the smallest ray of hope on the horizon, then lots of times that’s all they need to let their greatness shine forth.

I’m glad to see that Obama being president is having a good effect on black school children. This is obviously something that the world has needed for a long time — and I agree with the comment above that Ireland needs her own “Obama” as do many other places.
I’ve also come across a lot of suspicion about Obama in the American press. I think a lot is on his shoulders because he has more of a need to prove himself a good president than his predecessors had.

JOHN OBIDI says

THE OBAMA EFFECT HAS COME TO STAY. IT IS SIMPLE PSYCHOLOGY RE-ECHOED VEHEMENTLY IN OUR TIME. THERE IS NO DOUBT THAT OBAMA HAS INSPIRED A WHOLE GENERATION ON EARTH. THIS ALONE IS ENOUGH TO UPGRADE ANY HUMAN BEING ALIVE TODAY. OBAMA DID FOR POLITICS WHAT HAWKING HAS DONE FOR SCIENCE. BOTH HAVE RISEN ABOVE CRIPPLING CIRCUMSTANCES TO BE THE SUPERNOVAS OF INSPIRATION. THE SLATE OF THE UNIVERSE CAN NEVER BE THE SAME AGAIN.

Carol says

First, let me say up front that I was and am a huge Obama supporter. I walk around with a lighter spirit every day now that he is our president. Anyway, I agree with much of what has already been said here; Obama’s election broadened awareness of and belief in what is possible. I can certainly understand how that would have an impact on the kids’ belief in their own ability to excel. It also probably simply makes them feel more like the full-fledged citizens they are. As a woman, I have felt a greater sense of inclusiveness and empowerment as women have gained higher profiles in our society.

God loves each and every one of us. It is we who fail to believe that because we more easily believe the lies that we are told by each other sometimes. For all that however we are a wonderful creation and I am so grateful we are awakening to our own greatness. For white people too this is growth and a challenge to be our best. There is alot of hope put in Obama the man. It is true He stands on the shoulders of giants like Fredrick Douglas, Washington Carver, Dr King, even Malcom X.

The great thing with Obama’s election has already been pointed out, that the blacks of America can no longer blame white society for their lack of achievement. When a black man can rise to the top then why can’t they? They must be thinking. And that is a good thing.

But as in all of these ‘studies’ especially those put out by a far left newspaper as the NY Times, I’m sure I’m not getting the full story. Certainly not a balanced story.

I say it’s too early to make such judgements about Obama. Slightly half of America didn’t vote for him. That means nearly half is already against him. The longer he stays in office the more people (his supporters) he will disappoint when campaign promises go unkept.
He harped on what the Republicans did in office and their overspending and the first thing he does as President is propose the greatest financial tax burden to lay on the American people ever!

This ‘Obama’ effect may backfire if as a President he fails to pull off any of his policies and plunge America into the despair that Jimmy Carter sent us into in ‘79. Our first black President may give a ‘black eye’ to future hopefuls. And that would be a bad thing.
My hope is that he does well but I say, wait and see.

Oh, and by the way, I’m an American African!

Vickie says

Whether or not Mr. Obama does all the things that might be attributed to him, the point is just due to his existence he has inspired untold numbers of people to wake up, and become more, do more, be more and have more of the life they came here to have. The soul has no color or religeon but speaks to whomever will listen, be they willing to search for their own truth. Obviously the blacks see their kind in leadership, easier to relate, easier to follow, hence there will be an upward curve in their development. Obama Efect = Yes, We Can

Gary says

The Obama effect is very real. I am a white man from Zimbabwe and had been on his side from the start for one very important reason. Obama is a primarily a human being, not black, not white, not coloured, not asian. Like the rest of us he is a human. He is interested in all people irrelevant of colour or creed. He never takes sides on racial issues but encourages all, like JFK, to adopt the approach of what can I do for my country .… So while many blacks will get a great boost using Obama as an example, I believe all people will improve themselves based on the motivation his principles create. He gives hope to the planet. The only message I would like to pass on is the following. Affirmative Action in most cases has been a curse and Obama has shown that those who strive to succeed do not need it. Many people who qualify for affirmative benefits unfortunately think of it as a right and not a privilege. When they start to realise it as a privilege and take advantage of it, they too will soar. If we modify two well known biblical phrases we get: “Affirmative Action helps those who help themselves”, as opposed to “Affirmative Action will provide”. Understanding this difference is essential for upliftment, and is the major problem in Africa at the moment, where there is too much expectation and not enough appreciation.

William says

We are all standing on the shoulders of Martin Luther King. I look back on Dr. King with gratitude, and forward with Barack Obama with great hope. Once more America has found a man to rise to the occasion in a time of great need.

Andy says

Maybe it’s something far more simple — maybe black people have realised that since a black man can get into the White House there’s no excuse for them accepting victim status anymore.
When you walk around with a chip on your shoulder you see more chips.
If people felt more confident about tests then it proves that the only thing stopping them achieving anything wasn’t the colour of their skin, but their perception of other people’s perception of the colour of their skin. Complicated?
If you think you have a ‘disability’ that stops you achieving, you will play to that and use it as an excuse. When it is removed you have nothing to hide behind. Now they don’t. Now they can reach for the moon and maybe grab a few stars on the way as members of the human race. As should we all and bugger preconceived ideas.

Liam says

The Obama Effect is basically about leading by example, showing people that something can be done has a much bigger impact than just being told that something can be done.

The Obama Effect is both good and bad, it just depends on who is leading us and who is ‘showing’ us (not ‘telling’ us) how to do things right.

Ron Daack says

I believe that that this is one of the gratest things that happened to our country and the world also. It just goes to prove that each and everone of us has the potential to achieve whatever we desire regardless of race, color or creed.

I an thankfull that this has happened and also that we can all take this as an inspiration for the whole world.

Dennis Sullivan says

I think the study was a joke, just another case of sucking up to Obama. If the study results was presented next year then I might believe. There’s no way in my mind that it could happen that fast.

Mike says

The election of Obama is the greatest thing that could have happened to re-awaken, and perhaps inspire, an America grown old, arrogant and cynical about the rest of the world.

Jerry Waxman says

A couple of questions:

When the achievement gap decreased, could that mean that white students achieved less than before? I hope not, and I think not.

Martin Luther King’s achievements were far more significant than Obama’s, and every year there is a holiday in which students, black and white, are reminded of his achievements. Is there something about Obama that makes him a more effective role model than Martin Luther King?

Okay, I have to admit that when I see a report like this, I am very sceptical of its validity, and its value. As an educator I want all students to achieve to the maximum of their potential. And there should be no achievement gap between the races.

In reality, there is an achievement gap, and it is exciting that there is today a role model who inspires black students to work toward their potentials more than they did before.

But there is something that is not reported here. It would be interesting to see comparisons of overall student achievements pre-Obama and post-Obama Inauguration. My gut feeling is that they all rise. Obama, the man — without regard to skin color — is an inspiration and role model for all students of all colors. And for me, too.

Johnny says

Obama is far from my home.

Carla says

I reckon that because society has been telling black people they are second class citizens for years they began to believe it and now that a black man has become president it has opened a door in the minds of young coloured people to rise above the oppression that their culture has enforced upon them and reach and achieve their goals.
( sorry if this seems very forward but I am a straight talking kinda girl)
Being Irish, my culture has faced similiar trials in the past as we were seen as second class up until very recently. To be honest I reckon Ireland needs her own “Obama” to help us realise our potential.
What Obama means for our future? Well I think that a new day dawned when he was elected because it forced a lot of old ways of thinking redundant, and that in my opinion is what has america breathing new life right now. Since he was elected America has realised the strength of being a multi-cultural society and utilising it for the good of the people. I just hope that other countries especially mine follow suit, and the world becomes a better and more united place to live.

Jeanie Creviston says

I have noticed that the blacks in my community have an attitute. That just because there is a black pres. it gives them rights to treat the white people like less than human. I have almost been ran over by a cart, cut in front of in line and almost hit by a car! Not one kind word to say I’m sorry or excuse me…I didn’t see you…nothing but rudeness! My other white friend said she notice the same thing on the other side of town. I thought this would fianlly make them get over that slavery hurdle! The way I see it they still want more for free!My family never had slaves! I don’t owe anyone anything. Get out and get a job like the rest of us! respect is earned! I don’t care what color you are. I have black, asian, muslim and a few white friends!

Pedro says

Surely this has to do with resonance and entrainment.
The group consciousness has lifted those persons involved to a higher level. This is very common in Healing and am thinking this may be similar.

Phil says

As a visitor from Europe (and a believer in auto-suggestion techniques and more metaphysical approaches to the brain) I find this information interesting but not surprising. There is so much that can be achieved through motivation (in this case positive role models) and I am so sad that nearly all of our industry leaders and managers (including my own boss) simply can’t see this relationship. Do good and you will get it back three times.

We in Europe hope that a new era in the connection between us and the United States is rising.

Thank you by the way for sharing this information.

This is caused by Awareness — it is simply labeled as the Obama effect in this case as what has changed is the awareness of what is possible.

My take on this is similar to shayne’s, if a human acheives something others will do it even better in lesser time than he did. It reminds me the story of the guy that beat the 100 m less than 10 sec. It took ages for someone to do it but after that first break it took only a few weeks/months for that record to be broken again and again. We need pioneers to shows us that is possible it needs only 1 to do it so others can believe it is possible and also do it. Most of us think if that guy can achieve that why can’t I. We are all human so of course I can achieve that and then we do it! this is THE SECRET :D

Sharon says

Yes, I agree with that. Especially if that person is similiar to your own economic/social/demographic. In this way it makes it easier for you to see yourself attaining that goal, lifestyle, or whatever else you are working on attaining.

Josh Thomas says

Well… Obama’s an influential person. We often look up to the people we love and make them a model. Previously, people are so stuck with the beliefs that they are being ‘pressed down’ in some ways that it becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy.

Now that the limits are shattered, people are suddenly able to see beyond what they can previously do.

Sort of reminds me of the story where this guy tried not to sleep for 20+ or so days. It was a world record that no one had ever broken before. But after he did it, not long after the newspapers published another record breaker who didn’t sleep longer than the guy before. So on and so forth.

The ceiling was just lifted

shayne says

If we associate ourself with someone and they attain something that we would also like to attain then we are more likely to believe that we can attain that goal or a similiar goal as well. We have seen itr happen therefore we believe that it is possible.Believe that it can happen and then see it happen!
