The 3 Enemies Of New Year Resolutions 55

Dear Friends,

How’s this for an eye-opening statistic?

Studies show that a whopping  88 percent of people who make New Year Resolutions fail to accomplish them. In fact, most people already give up on them before Valentine’s Day!

We’re almost at the end of January, so I must ask you…

How are yours coming along?

Have you cut down on or stopped a bad habit like drinking, smoking or snacking?
Have you began to lose those extra pounds?
Have you started learning that new hobby, or building the foundations for that new business?

iStock_000011237798Small

I hope you’re doing better than most people, because if there’s one thing many of us are good at, it’s making excuses!

How many times have you heard someone — or even yourself — saying something along the lines of…

It’s still early in the year, I’ve got plenty time to catch up.“
“It’s too difficult. Who am I trying to kid?“
“I’m not going to force it. If it’s meant to be, it’s meant to be.”

Even worse, some of us don’t even bother making an excuse! We just sweep them under the carpet and try our best to forget them.

But really, you’re not just sweeping your resolution under the carpet — you’re also sweeping away any hopes of becoming a better person.

So why does this happen to so many people?

Let me tell you the truth — every broken New Year Resolution always boils down to at least one of the following reasons…

I call them ‘The 3 Enemies of New Year Resolutions’:

1. You are not 100% committed to taking massive action

2. You don’t know where to start

3. You don’t have the right tools to get you started

Now I’m going to let you in on a little secret…

One of my New Year Resolutions was to help you achieve yours
:)

And that’s why over the next couple of days, I’m going to tell you exactly what you need to do to take down these ‘Enemies’, and finally start achieving your New Year Resolutions.

(And trust me, it’s a lot easier than you might think!)

We’re going to start with the first step…

I need you to make a commitment.

In the comments section below, write down your list of New Year Resolutions. They can be as big or as little as you want them to be — as long as you are 100% committed to achieving them.

Start your comment with the following line:

Burt, I am 100% committed to achieving the following New Year Resolutions by December 31, 2010″

And then, just continue writing down your resolutions in a numbered list.

Can’t wait to hear from you :)

Sincerely,

Burt

I will improve my meditation skills
I will be positive, and turn negative thoughts into positive one.
I will help a lot’s of people with EFT
I will learn something new.

I do not hope I will do it. I know I will and I am determined to make all of this.
Thank you for reminding me and helping me to do it dear Burt.

i think that we all try to do things at the wrong time. the New Year is really not different from any other day. If one is in tune with the universe, you know that there are days when things go smooth and others where all forces are working against you. Rather than focus on one day (Jan. 1st) why not align your resolutions when you match the rhythm of the universe and it’s like riding a bike with a tail wind. I have resolutions all year long at different dates but only when the timing is right. After all the most important thing is to succeed with your resolutions, not some random date. Your thoughts please. Jean V,

I stopped making resolutions long ago, because the blame I heaped upon myself secondary to the inevitable failure, was unbearable.

Every day I strive to be a better person. Every day I strive to be a healthier person. Every day I strive to be a kinder, more compassionate person.

2010 will bring me success in my weight goals. 2010 will bring me success in finding love. 2010 will bring me an abundance of wealth.

And as a personal message to you Burt… My sister purchased the Mind Box for me as I was desperate for “something” to help with my emotional state of mind — menopause, having feelings for someone that didn’t pan out, etc. Although I feel as if I’ve jumped into the middle of something with the Mind Box (having never meditated before, not really being completely aware of any of the material the Mind Box covers), I know with all my heart and soul that it was worth every penny. My emotions, although still somewhat raw at times as I have always been an incredibly emotional person, are better controlled because of the meditations. I don’t listen to them daily, and have not listened to them all, but will eventually.

Thank you for sharing your knowledge with the world at large, and for helping me be a better person — physically, spiritually and emotionally.

Hello Burt

I only made one resolution this year and that was to try and get my life back on track as my partner of 5 years wanted to split because he wanted children. I have now bought your MindBox CD’s and am involved with MindValley. Hopefully by the end of 2010 I will be in a much happier place emotionally as the Mindbox series is just what I have been looking for. Many thanks, you are an inspiration.

David says

I didn’t make any New Year’s Resolutions this year. I made massive changes to my life in early December/late November. I am currently in my 6th week of not smoking cigarettes (I am using the patch). I started exercising 3 times a week in November, and since I started learning about Qigong, through Finer Minds, it has become more frequent. Burt, you are partially responsible for my discovery of Qigong, so thank-you very much. Since I learned how to meditate I have been meditating every day, and sometimes 2 or 3 times in a day. Actually, Burt, it may be possible for me to trace all these changes back to you, in one way or another. So it seems, you are very awesome! I always thought you were pretty wise, but now I think even more highly of you. Thanks again!

Etelka says

Thank you for caring and guiding, and holding us accountable to ourselves.I never make New Years resolutions, knowing that I won’t follow through,I will make the excuses. We all are aware of some of our weaknesses, but don’t have the discipline to work on our strenghts. One month of the New year is almost gone, but I believe anyone can start a new, more efficient, more productive, more successful, more balanced way of life any day of the year. It’s never too late, as long as we are committed to actually doing it day in and day out.
So here are my goals:
1. Loose 30 lb. by May 21,2010, by excercising, eating healthy, giving up binge eating, and chocolate.
2.Learn online about a more efficient use of my computer.
3.Read every day.
4.Write every day.
5.Stop wasting time on addictive computer games.
6.Stop making excuses for not following up on goals.
7.Celebrate the good feeling of achievement at the end of each week by listening to my favorite music for 1 hour every Sunday.

Otis says

Hazel, i really liked what you said. But to not have a glass of wine after dinner every other week? Even Paul in the Bible says a glass of wine is healthy for you and good for your metabolism and digestion. I agree. Don’t believe in giving up anything that is good for us. My resolution always is TO SURVIVE. Thus far i have always kept it. Ha! If i am ever not around, i wont even know that i failed. So far i have a perfect batting average. Ha!

1) My once in every other week glass of wine after dinner should be cut off.

2) Avoid stressing myself out when bieng accused of an alcoholic person when all I could manage is no more than two glasses of red occasionally and couldn’t even take the hard one.

3) Avoid entertaining those naysayers that doesn’t even know me.

4) I could loss a pound but not more than two for I could look like an under weight then.

5) Focus my mind and time with my hobby particularly when I’m writing.

6) Change my attitude of impulsive reaction about inappropriate comments and criticism.

7) I have to help myself, so I could be effective on things that I am supposed to be doing.

8) Encourage to push myself to take action often.

Burt, I am 100% committed to achieving the following New Year Resolutions by December 31, 2010.

1. Drink less.

2. Save more.

3. Have more fun with my writing.

It’s kinda funny. At first, I was over-committed to losing weight, and I dieted wrong, lost all my energy, and gained weight. On the other hand, I didn’t commit to drinking less, but as it turned out, I’m down to drinking only once a week. I think having no energy stole all my desire to drink. Anyway, I’m dieting correctly again and losing the weight. Still doing well on the drinking, too.
